Default You xB and speedbumps

quick qestion.

when going over speed bumps, does your car make more suspension noise as it when it was stock? when going over speed bumps on the OEM springs, it didn't make a sound. everything is installed correctly and the spring are all seated correctly with all the bolts tightened.

btw, i'm on goldline springs.

Did you reindex your torsion mounts in the rear? It is a rubber mount and it could cause a sqweek if it is overstressed.

Very good question. I have an excellent suggestion for you guys on lowering springs, retaining the stock front struts:

Be very sure the spring always is under some compression.

To check this out jack up a front wheel clear of the ground.
Reach around the tire and grab the spring and check it for having a firm seat in both spring perches.
See, IF the lowering spring is shorter than the span between the two perches, you'd get a rattle/knock there if ever the front wheel rebounds on the downstroke to the strut's internal bump stop

There are two bump stops: the external one stacked on the damper rod, and the internal, invisible one that limits how much the control arm/hub assy' can extend down. IF a spring is a bit shorter than stock it might go slack and there would be a mysterious noise in result.
And ultimately possible damage to the spring perches. Not likely with steel OEM parts, but you'd have a noise for sure.

Stylis just fixed this for me and it's been SO nice without the grind.

Go look on your stock springs. on the bottom are some black plastic sleeves, kinda split down one side. They aren't very noticable. Peel them off and put them on the bottom of the Goldlines. Slide them down as far as they will go but sticking out enough to cover the rub spot. If you jack up the car they should hang down enough to slip them on without having to remove the springs.

Make sense? It works, trust me. I've been hearing that squeak for over a year til last week.

Ah, cool fix, Mark. I see those sleeves on the Tein springs also. So, USA makers don't do these anti-chaffes as a matter of course. I guess they should.

mystery solved.

Over speedbumps? I dont know what you guys are talking about. Around or reverse is the only option I see

Mines really low in the front (I know a lot of you are a lot lower) but with these Nebraska speedbumps, many times I cant get over.

As for the noise, I never remember hearing it. I do have the little plastic piece on my Tanabes so that it prevents the clank. Is that the noise?

metal to metal will always make a sound, put on the rubber/plastic sleeves where the metal is touching and the noise goes away.

Did you have the rotors turned when you replaced the pads? If not, the pads may be getting used to the previous grooving.

How much can an xB be lowered and still navigate over speed bumps?

depends on the speed bumps. nebraska, on average, are like 4 inches or so it seems like.

cant quite clear that

you can be 2" all around and be fine pretty much
