Got the wheels.... (18" x 7.5" TRDs)

I plan to lower it 1"
I want a smooth ride
I want long tread life
I want a good look

What are your best tire ideas..???

What about offset and spacers?

 

maybe a 205/40 would work? anyone got any ideas?

usually you can get a smooth ride and long tread life all in one... i dont think so anyways. try www.tirerack.com . they have a tire selection guide that may help you.

I agree with the size and I have been doing some homework on my specs and it looks like the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 would be a great tire for me....
Any input?

 

oops, i mean you usually CANT get smooth and long tread life all in one. i would think for a smooth ride, two things comes into play. how much tire and the firmness of the tire. and if its firm, you probably wont get smooth, but youll get longer tread life. someone correct me if im wrong..... i may just have it all screwed up.


wheres oro valley? cali? if so, the ps2 looks like it would be a great tire. BUT, it looks like they may not make the 205-40 series as they dont have it on tire rack. but they may just have it somewhere else.



actually, i did a little more research. a 205/40 may not even exist lol. i was just guessing. i did a search on tire rack and nothing came up for those specs. not even a 205/45.

now, a 215/50 comes up with one choice. the Pirelli PZero Nero. also a good tire from what it sounds like.

but with the 45 series, its a little thinner so its kinda up to you. the 50 will be a tad taller and it will provide a little more "cushion" if you will...

 

No, there is a 205/40YR18 Michelin on Tire Rack ....... I spec'd it last night and it ranks in the 8s & 9s in all categories. Looks like the way to go.

HAving said that, Do you have any experience with offset on the xB?
In other words, am I going to be able to just put these 18s on with nothing else or will I need some custom adjustements?

 

hey, got your email. i must have typed in the wrong info cuz when i searched for the specific measurements, it didnt show up.

ANYWAYS. Experience with offset? It all depends really. Do you want to make the wheels totally flush with the fenders? If so youll want to get as low of an offset as you can when buying the wheels. Im guessing the trd ones wont be as low as in the 20s or anything so you might want to look into some spacers or even the rear shims sold by One Ton Garage.

Other than that really, you should be able to just throw em on after mounting the tires.... after balancing of course.

the only other "custom adjustment" i could think of would be is camber adjustment. I wouldnt necessarily do it after the rims, but i would when you lower it and/or if you plan on adding the spacers or shims.

215/35-18 or 205/40-18 will work. 225/40-18 is a tad bit too tall and will throw off your speedo.
