question bout the box
I have a question i have a scio xb with tien s-tech springs and 18" rims, also i have a body kit. But the question is i just picked up some fender flares and i wanted to get rid of my 18s for mabey a 16 or a 17 inch wheel. Does anyone know what size tire and rim would be good to match up with the flare. And will the car still drive fine without hitting the fender?
Any help would be great. I tried to ask certain people on this fourm but they are soooo stuck on there own @$$ to help me out with these questions

what flares did you get first? May need to run 8.5 or 9 inch wide wheels with a nice offset. also you will probably need to roll your fenders for sure. If you need help pm suspended hes been working with all this ish lately.
well for reference, bBist had a 0 offset 15s on an 8 inch wheel that had flares for SEMA and looked damn good.
the all star was 15x8/15x9 with something like -25 offset and flares. so it all depends on which flares you get.
i would suggest doing something like 16x8s with -10 offset. thatll stick outside the fender wihtout being too much.
ive been looking at this option for awhile now also too.
if you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me and ill try to do my best in helping you. ive researched this a while and done a lot of background looking to see what will be best.

Honestly to run flares correctly youll need to be somewhere around the all star xb. Somwhere between 9" -10" with deep negative offsets. If you ask me. I would run
16x9 -25 front
16x10- 20 rear
2 degree up front- Cusco Plates
3 degrees in the rear- OTG Camber shims
Remember, you can fit a 15x8 +0 under the stock body without flares. You can fit that size with just OTG camber shims no problem. With OTG camber shims i've done 16x8 -20 under the stock rear fenders.

look at that thread cassidy. near the middle/bottom of first page it will show you how close the wheel is to the fender with 15x8s and 0 offset. you dont need to go ridiculous in size to make it fit and look right.
personally, i think camber looks stupid on a car with flares. the whole point of flares is to make it fit right, so why would you need camber?
i dont know though. maybe im just too much of a noob at this. i figured out that with 1-2 inch flares, that a good offset on my personal Works would be have to be -15 all around. (ive got 16x7s up front and 16x7.5 in back)

If you want to be truly flush with the fender flares, your gonna have make drastic modifications to your stock fenders underneath or else they'll rub like crazy...kind of a big decision. The green All-Star xB didn't have to mess with the stock fenders cause it was on air.
But like bBOXD said, your kit is very VIP style, so sporty fender flare might clash. IMO, your kit is begging for wide, cambered wheels especially with those flared skirts. I am thinking 8.5" +17 w/ -2 deg camber and 9.5" +17 with -3 camber, then slam it. Then you'd be in bBOXD level! But that's just an option if you decide to go VIP.......

that is true. shine street is classified as VIP/Luxury according to style wagon magazine.
i think following a specific theme though and sticking to only that is stupid. i think people should do what they want regardless of what a certain style is.
personally, i think cassidys car would look awesome with some flares
its awesome already, but i think itll be really sweet with some low offset wheels and flares

well i can see that maybe where you live, but i doubt there is more than a dozen people in Nebraska that have heard of Work wheels. none know the difference between Luxury and Euro. It just bothers me I guess.
Point Im trying to make with it is this: Mark, I know you have an awesome xB. Youve stuck to theme and done a lot that is really cool. Most people wont drop the money you have to do VIP or stick with specifically Sport. They will go with whatever is cheap and looks good (which I find right ).
There are a lot of good looking cars that are one theme, but that is all in the eye of the beholder on what looks good. (ie. some people hate stretched tires, some people hate camber, some people hate chrome 20s). i dont like the tuner style here personally and Ive veered off from that. But I dont think someone needs to limit themselves to one specific style as long as they think it looks good.

Yes i agree with not following one certain theme but the overall end product must have flow and not become an eyesore, you know?
What im trying to say is exactly what Rico just said. Sometimes cars end up looking like the owners didn't know what to do with thier money and just went all sorts of different ways. Concinnity is the key word here.

well im trying to stay away from 15's cause i still want to be able to drive places. lol cause i will way to low cause of the kit. Thats why im thinkin of downsizeing to the 17
Ok, my offset suggestion:
no fender flares:
17x8.5 +17 -2deg camber
17x9.5 +17 -3deg camber
roll fenders flat and maybe a slight pull....
with flares,
17x8.5 -25
17x9.5 -25
no camber, but lots of body work done to the stock fenders

The main thing you will have to do is put the flares on the car and measure how much you will need to go wide.
Decide if you are willing to cut up your car for clearance or you WILL rub! We measured what we thought would clear and our xB was rubbing like crazy and popping off the rear flares. Each manufacturer makes flares that extend beyond the factory fenders at different lengths.
It looked pretty goofy when we adjusted the coilovers for clearance because we didn't want to cut up the box. Ultimately we decided to cut up the body and go with the Air Runner suspension system.
For SEMA we ran a 15X8 0ET wheel and the fronts stick out about 1". With the same wheel, the rear's stick out about 3/4"
Here is a pic before we cut the body for clearance (at this height, the rear wheels still rub)

And here is a pic after we cut the body for clearance...

Good luck with the flares! Post some pics when you get everything on!
