Yeah, 215s will look good on 8.5s.
I have 215/35-18 on my 18x8.5s in the rear.
Should be nice and mild. Noticable enuff to those who know about the stretch look.

A 215/40 will give you a slight stretch, depending on the brand you use too. Some tire brands dont stretch well at all. Maybe find something with a curb protector, Toyo T1S, Dunlop SP, and Falkens stretch nice. You could run a 205/40 if youre ready for some crazy stretch!
Peabe, do a 205/40 stretch. A 215/40 will not looked stretched at all. We have a 205/40 Dunlop FM901 on these and they look incredible. They give the same exact stretch as my 215/35 on my 8.5. Perfect sidewall stretch.
The FM901's look really good stretched.

HEHE, Scerets?! What are those.
I will take pics of these. I have the 18's here but the 17's in silver are also here with 205/40's on them.
I will snap a few in a little bit. The silver ones are going on our next VIP project.

Alright here are the pics bro.
205/40-17 Dunlop FM901
Perfect looking stretch.
215/40 is not enough of a stretch for these wheels. You must do a 205 bro. These are no where near a CRAZY stretch. And yes these are going on a Daily driven Scion that drives 100+ miles everyday.
We like to drive our shiz!!!

215/40 would be good for you. It's right there at the max wheel width allowable as deemed by the tire company. It will be a nice mild stretch. I don't think you want 205/40 from what you wrote. That is bordering on crazy stretch for a daily...but, it's a close call. We are talking about 10mm more tread width here and a slight difference in sidewall.
