Ok, I just bought a set of in-channel vent shields from Autozone. The dude there told me that the rubber around the window on the inside of the door has to be removed. Is this true? Can someone give me a walkthru about putting these on? Would you guys recommend them?

No Way Jose' Thats not true. you need the window seals in there. Don't do it. Those things are poor design in my oppinion, I had them and sent them back because the windows bound up in the channel. i was worried that some damage would occur to my new car. But i wish i could find some that just mount outside the all the others i've seen i would get them......I love the look and the fact they serve a purpose. The rain falls in the car when the window is down a bit ........

 

Yea Autozone also has the ones the just stick on the outside, are they better to get?

 

ventshades tend to jam up...

weathertechs have never jamed in any of my cars....best looking ones IMO.

in-channel are the way to go, unless you like big bulky things hanging on the outside of your car....

 

I have in-channel VentShades on my box. You definitely do NOT remove the channel seals. You just have to make sure that the mounting tabs go in between the rubber seal and the metal channel itself. That is, on the front window shades and the front end of the rear shades. The tabs on the back of the rear shades stay outside. My windows run down and up just fine - no jamming.

 

I got ventshades for my xB, at first I though they might have been mounted wrong because they weren't on the outside of the door but stuck up in the window seal and sometimes the windows would catch. As it turns out they just need time to adjust to the door, that and a little more double sided tape. The windows don't catch on them anymore.

I don't know about that idea of putting them in between the rubber and the metal, when I look at it it would seem like it would mess up the rubber running around the rest of the window.

With the way I did it though the tabs are also sticking out on the back of the rear windows, I don't know if it's really supposed to be like that or if the manufacturer made them a bit too long.

 

Just to clarify - only the mounting tabs at the ends of the VentShades go in between the rubber and the frame, with the exception of the rear of the back door shades. The tabs along the length of the shades go inside the channel rubber. Here are some close-up pictures.

This was the way the instructions said to install the shades. I've had no problems with the windows jamming.

 

I've heard good things about the Wade's in channels.

djhotlava, where did you get the weathertechs fot $49? i paid $89 for the front and back on weathertech website.

 

I got wades on ebay last week... Very nice fitment and Very easy to install. I love driving the freeway with my windows cracked now.

I put another suggestion for wades!

The "DUDE" may have been talking about when the **** on your window frame does not line up with the indentation for this **** in the vent visor.
This could happen to anyone who buys in-channel type visors.

If that is the case for driver or pasinger side then:
1. Pull down the rubber gasket in the door frame near the ****.
2. Remove the blue tape that holds the **** in place.
3. Line up **** with indentation in vent visor.
4. Replace blue tape.
5. Install visor as directed.
Be sure to clean your rubber gasket because that is what in-channel visors stick to. Understand that the window jams against visor instead of nice soft rubber gasket. Scratches from contact should only affect the top 1/4 inch of your glass windows. But you may be lucky and get no scratches. 50/50
