Default TRD question

I'm working on getting a xB soon and have a suspension question for you guys.

I want to keep the warranty going once I get it for as long as I can stand not doing too much customizing myself, but I want those wheel wells filled up as much as possible. I can't stand the stock suspension, wheels and tires.

I was originally thinking tannabe df210s with 17x7 wheels and 215/45/17 tires to get more sidewall (I'd rather have 18s, but there are some pretty rough potholes where I drive and I don't want 35s because of that).

If I order the xB with the TRD springs, how much of a drop will it give and what size wheel and tire should I be looking at?

If I put the df210s on myself, will it really void the warranty? Will the dealership put the tannabe springs on for me and let me keep the warranty?

I could really use your help. As soon as I find out for sure that I will be ordering the xB I want to order any suspension and wheels I need and have them here waiting. I do NOT want to drive at the stock stance any longer than I have to.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks

To be on the safe side, get 205/45/17 OR a rim with 40-35 offset. Wider tires and more negative offsets and you will have the tire and rim rubbing on the rear control arm and the plate of the front shock. Note that this is a plus size and will slightly alter your mileage readings. The closest tire that matches our car is a 40 series tire so you can consider that too.

Aftermarket springs will not void your warranty unless it can be proved that it was the cause of the malfunction.

IMO, DF210's rides rough (Too many dead coils...) S-techs are more friendly and drop a good 1.5-2 inch. TRD's drop 1-1.2 inch.

The TRD's after thEy settle are in the 1.25-1.5in range.

**start the broken record**

Adding aftermarket parts to your car cannot and will not Void your warranty unless the part itself or the installation of the part has caused the damage in question. Meaning if you change your exhaust and you power window stops working they can't say that the exhaust caused the problem. If an after market part caused a factory part to fail only the part effected is not covered.

**end broken record**

Your is Columbia, SC huh? Who's your deal Dick Dyer? They might not do it for you but double check to be sure. We will install pretty much anything. Even if you don't buy it from us. As long as it's a good part and not some old cheap stuff we'll put it in. Now that work has a warranty on it but if you have a bad spring then that's on you.

Truthfully speaking you could probably do it yourself and save the money. Lowering an xB is the easiest suspension work I've ever been involved with. It with hand tools it only take about an hour.

yeah.. i'm sure i can do it myself, I just wanted to make sure the warranty doesn't get voided.

I just wish I could decide. Even though I have seen pix of 2" drops with 17s and 18s, I don't know if the 17s will fill up the wheel well enough for my taste and as far as the 18s go, I REALLY do not like the idea of 35 series tires.

Thanks for the info so far guys.

If you're ever coming to Myrtle Beach you can come see what Hotchkis springs with 215/40/17's and 215/35/18's look like in person. My friend Art has goldlines with 215/40/17's. This weekend we may be putting the wheels off my car on Lance's xB just to see what they look like. (225/40/18 +45 offset) I'll try to take some pics of all the xB's with the different wheels.

Those pics would be sweet... I got your message BTW and replied. Thanks again for the offer and there may be a trip to MB in my near future.

Unfortunately it may be more near than the Scion. I still have to sell my '91 Z (which I wish I didn't have to do) and then go to the dealership to order the Box. I doubt they'll have what I want in stock, so I'm sure I'll be waiting impatiently for a couple of weeks.

that's the spirit hotbox...

Problem is the friggin alternator for the thing alone costs $400+ not to mention the power steering, water pump and timing belt that need to be replaced. Dent, bad paint, blah, blah and blah.

It costs too much money to upkeep, it's a two seater which is fine for just me, but for my 2-year-old or my wife.

go figure...

Go with the S-techs. They are super easy to install and they drop the box good. I have 16's that I got from my friend for uber cheap but I really wanted 17's. The 16's are ok with getting rid of the gap but 17's would be better. The trd springs....I have heard nothing but bad things about them. Too many dead springs, the ride is rough, the back end bounces.....S-techs drop it nice, the ride hasn't been too bad. I live in S. San Francisco and travel into the city (pothole heaven) and its fine for me. S-techs are really cheap too on ebay. I got mine, with shipping, for 119.00 for all 4. Just look around.
