Default Project: G.R.I.P (brace yourself!!!)

I'm not into the whole "art of losing control" thing that most people have come to know as drifting. Me personally, I like to test the limits of a cars abillity to handle curves at high rates of speed without breaking loose (a.k.a. g-forces). Today, since the GSpec bar was one of the suspension pieces in question as far as "does t work?", I decided to go out in my garage and do some fabaricating. In doing so, this is what I developed.....and yes they do work. My other suspension upgrades include an upper front strut bar and Tein SS-P coilovers with 16 way adjustable dampers. If you are in the San Bernardino area and you want to see this in person or take a drive, p.m me. All opinions and comments welcome.

Konfuzion3 c-pillar brace and rear strut bar with cross braces...

I think all of the braces are cool. As for functionality..I wonder how functional they are.

Were these all custom? How much were they?

They are fully funtional and the rear is noticably stiffer in corners even with the adjustable dampers. I fabbed everything myself. These bars (cross braces) weren't originally made for the xB or the xA and to my knowledge they don't exist for our applications.. They do make a c-pillar brace and as well as a front and rear stut bar, but i deciced to take it a couple of steps further and stiffen the rear with the cross braces. I still have a few things up my sleeves though.

Interesting.

What did you tie into to mount the lower rear crossmembers in the hatch?

If you take out the foam, you will see two threaded holes. I bored them out with a 3/8 bit and rethreaded them. I used bigger bolts to secure the braces to the chassis.

more power to you. i am sure the struts are functional. but your ability to use interior space is diminished. i recently had to haul a new washing machine in my box.

Yeah, I have been under the foam and carpet a time or two.

I don't care for the bar across the feet of the rear passengers, but the hatch looks good.

I don't really haul anything around, so space really isn't necessary for me. I was still able to put a hood for a Del Sol inside even with the bars.

for the extent of stiffening the chasis that much you would probably be better off to just start putting in a custom rollcage. having that much done to a car thats going to actually perform will bump you up quite a bit in scca classes.

The only thing about a rollcage is that you can't adjust the preload. My bars are fully adjustable and a lot lighter.

I've done "seat of the pants tests" so far and I like the results. I haven't been able to get the rear to break loose yet, but I'm still trying.

How much would you charge to fab me this same set up? Not sure if you are willing to do so, but if you are i might take you up on it later on this year. Possibly, depends on what happens when i move out..or before hand.

from what i can see you attached the top of the trinagulation bars in the rear to top post of the shock absorber, is this a good thing? It practiacally looks like that br they sell on ebay that attaches the same way. I dont know if putting all that stress on your shock mounts is a good idea, but maybe im wrong. I love the way it looks and im REALLY TRULY VERY MUCH into circuit racing. Which, by the way, im gonna go do tommorow. In my car i have:

DC Sports tower brace
GT spec front chassis brace
TRD rear frame brace
Progress rear sway bar
OTG spacer shims (dont know if this does any difference)
Koni adjustables
Tein S-Techs.

My car handles beauitfully, even on stock rubber. Ive always wanted to tighten up the rear end but never knew how. I definately like the way you triangulated the trunk and if it truly works how much would you charge for fabbing one up for me and maybe a few more scionlifers.

I'm gonna autocross it when I'm finised. As of now, I'm still working out the bugs. Taking corners hard and fast is also fun! Thanks for the comment.
