Lower by heating springs????
My dad has worked on classic cars for years and says he's lowered a few by heating the spring. One coil will drop and this will lower the car. Has anybody else heard of or tried this? And would it be recommented for a xB? I know it won't exactly look nice (most ppl don't look at the springs anyway), but I don't know if this will be bad for the car in general or if it could cause the spring to break. What do you guys think? I'm tempted to try it since I was planning to buy lowering springs anyway.

I just recently bought an Xb that was lowered by heat and the ride is horrible, the springs pop out then back in while driving. not exactly the safest. The older cars you could do this with the weight of the car being heavier but not with an Xb. I have also had a ae86 corolla gt-s in which i cut the springs, ride still was not that good but had problems with those popping out and wasting a tire. I cut a groove on the sidewall. All in all not worth the time, effort or safety. the drop is unbelivable but not worth it.
itll cost more cause your going to Fu** it up, If you heat one spring to long or hold the torch to close to the spring and hold it to far away on the others then your ride is going to sit funky in one spot...then you find yourself trying to heat the rest agian to match the height of the one you *u$ked u* and end up making those too low...now what.you cant bring them back up so your Fu*$#d. Hence making you spend money that you dident want to spend in the first place and you mite have to pay to have someone remove the spring you heated to much and sank past a point were you can take it off. Or you mite do a GREATJOB
and the springs will be weak because of what you did and you mite ride down the road and a spring breaks and you run it to something or SOMEONE walking and go to jail and have to pay for bond and a att. to get you off...so see it could cost a lot more than just heating them up!!..If I were YOU I wouldent

NEVER EVER, EVER, Heat a spring! You will lose the spring rate and have an unsafe car.
Heating a spring removes the "spring" from the metal, and there is no way to heat each one the exact same. There will be differences between each spring, like having four different springs on the car. Does that sound safe?
Cutting spring maintains the rate of the spring, but you will lose some safe clearance depending on how much you cut. A custom lowering spring will be the safest way to get the look and they are relatively cheap these days. You will sacrifice ride quality though. try finding someone who has done it and go for a ride with them.
Good luck
