Default A Quick Dumb Question

I just got my H Techs today and was wondering if I can goof up the install. Meaning, putting the springs upside down since they don't state which end is ^up...

Bottom of spring is flat and top is coiled. Easy as that. No question is dumb, only assumptions are beacause they can cause mistakes.

You would be surprised at the number of people who have posted on this forum about installing their springs upside down. And even more often, one upside down and one right side up.

OMFG. Look at the text on the spring... install it the way, when you can read the text. Simple as that. It's common sense.

In looking at these Tein H photos, I don't see a flat bottom. And are not both the bottom and top coiled?

The H-techs have writing on them. Plus if you hold them up to your stock springs it's easy enough to figure out which way is up.

this is exactly right. i called TEIN and confirmed this. flat top... round bottom.... correct but irelevant in this case.... just asking to confuse the already confused.....

i have installed many sets of springs on xB's and others and you cannot just look at the stock coils to determine top and bottom. each company tunes their coils differently and the coils may be tighter at the opposite end than the facotry..... thats why they are specialists... they know how to make them better.

please dont flame on everyones parade here, thats not what scionlife is about. a simple answer suffices for this simple question.

The one other thing to watch for is when you remove your front struts. Your wheel hub (rotors) will tend to want to roll outward from the weight of it., so you need to support it with a jackstand or something. If it slides out to much, the only thing holding your axle in is the grease packed boots- you'll see these if you look at the axle and follow it in. If you don't support the rotor, the boots will pull and tear. If this happens, you'll know- There will be piles of thick grease under your car. Be careful about this. Universal boots aren't a good fit for this car, and if you have to replace them with OEM, your only going to find them at the dealer- which means $$$$.
Alot of shops screw this up even, when they do spring installs. But they wipe away the grease, so you don't know about it...until a year down the road when you start hearing a grinding noise when you drive.
