Default Thinking of buying new xB with OEM alloys: EM-7 ... Question

I'm thinking of buying a new xB and really like the EM-7 15" alloys.

The dealer said it is ONLY an exchange with the steel wheels, keeping
the stock tires, so I don't get the steel wheels.

Could I do better and order these alloys on-line?
Is there a web site which sells these alloys
for less than $665 and I can keep my steel wheels? He said
if I didn't order them at time of purchase the alloy wheels from
the parts department would cost more than $665 PLUS
installation.

Thanks for any suggested web sites or information.

You can always go with something other than the Scion wheels. I could have bought my set of wheels twice with $665.

Moved to Wheels and stuff.

I was also a noob, and that is why I have four Scion S-14 wheels sitting in my living room.

Considering one can get brand new VERY similar wheels starting at about $70 each, one would have to be really in love with those exact wheels to pay ten times that to get them from the dealer.

That's just my opinion, though.

Yeah, they don't say "Scion" on the hub and are a little different, but not THAT much different.

Well closer to 2.5x since they are $665 for a set of four vs. $280, but yeah, still overpriced.

Yeah, I told you my brain no longer does math, Ben.

My error, of course, but considering one gets to keep one's take-offs with the 'cheap wheels' it makes 'em even cheaper... (have you priced the cost of a replacement steel wheel for a box??? )

Hey tywen, you must remember that if you what different wheels, i.e. larger that 15" that is what the factory steel & alloy wheels are, that you must also buy a new set of tires along with the new rims. The best thing for you to do is find a set of wheels & tires that you like & compare them to the factory steel (free) & alloy wheels ($665).

Check out http://www.tirerack.com/ to see what the wheels look like on a xB.
Good lick with your discussion.

I have the alloys & I have had no problems with them. I did not what to be like everyone else with aftermarket rims.

If I were in your shoes, I would keep the stock tires, wheels and caps for now. If you have $650 buring a hole in your pocket, then start shopping.

We decided on the Borbet Type S which NOBODY seems to have. We are unique and still have the old steelies.

We did, however, upgrade to a bit wider tire with a 195 60 R15 (it is marganally larger in diameter too).

Personally, I do not like going to the "stealership". They never seem honest to me. If you gut tells you there is something fishy, there usually is.

Interesting. I swapped my wheels out on my xA for the EM-10's when I bought it, and I got to keep my steelies.

There's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't let you keep them as well.

It's a shame all dealerships aren't alike.

I just don't understand this dealer's train-of-thought at all. Does the MSRP not include the price of the steelies? Of course it does!!

So you are paying for a set of wheels that you can't keep and then turning around and purchasing the alloys.

sounds like your dealer is trying to rip you off....I did buy the em-7 alloys when I bought my 06 and the dealer boxed the steel wheels along with the stock tail lights, and put them in the back of the car - there was no question, I had paid for both sets. ( i could finance all of it together and not have to start rolling pennies to upgrade the steel),

It sounds like the Dealer is just saying , they take the stock tires off the stock wheels and install Tires on new rims , there not saying you cant keep stock rims .
my 1st Xb I told DEaler to put all take off items in the car with all boxes ect. and did without question . just tell them your keeping the stock wheels and caps .

Glad I read this before I go out and buy mine this week. I want some 18 inch spokes. Who has the best deal?
