Default A Few New Toyota Camrys Recalled for 6-Spd Issues

http://www.thecarconnection.com/Auto...73.A10341.html

The newest edition of the Toyota Camry is being recalled for a problem with the transmission. The problem, Toyota says, involved only a half-percent of Camrys built thus far for the 2007 model year. The new six-speed automatic transmission could lose second and sixth gear during operation. Toyota told Reuters the vehicle still will operate even if the gears are lost, and that the problem usually happens within the first 500 miles of use.

That would be a but tough in V6 Camry. They haven't built it for years and the 6 Speed is the V6 Trans.

You know that ford and gm people are going to use this against toyota. I work at a Mercury dealership and the sales people always give me a hard time about how Toyota is having more recalls. Of course when I come back and slap it in their face that at one time in mid January almost every single model of car on the lot (Mercury and Lincoln) had a recall on it they shut up. Glad to hear this is effecting less than a half percent and Toyota is on top of it.

As I've said before.....parts supplier quality is one of the most difficult things for manufacturers to control.

I haven't heard if it's a design issue or a build problem. Since it's effecting so few, I'd guess it's a just a few bad ones from a particular batch.....though I'd be willing to bet that only a handful will actually fail, if any. Toyota is crazy-proactive about this kind of thing.

BTW, TMMK gets their transaxles from 2 sources.....Avalon T/A's are built by Toyota at their West Virginia plant. Camry 4 cyl auto/manual T/A's and 6 cyl T/A's are built by one of Toyota suppliers, and shipped in from Japan.

It's the 6spd unit for the 2GR (V6) engine in the Camry....or at least a few of them anyway....that are effected.

We've had two so far, but no trans issues with them. I've pulled my other 3 from stock until they're done though.

I LOVE STICK toyota sticks are the greatest and i really think that the camry SE V6 2007 is ready for it so we dont have to deal with these automatic trans. problems not saying they suck or anything but just that THEY HAVE MORE PROBLEMS. the only reason honda has that performance "tuner" market is because of there manual transmission and the accord V6 offers it so why not the camry just my 2 cents.
