Default Help out a newbie ...

I'm new to Scion ... picked up my xB this morning in fact.

The dealer screwed up though ... the only accessory I wanted was some stock 15 inch alloys to replace the hubcaps (I hate hub caps). They failed to fit them, and when we checked the invoice sheet, they don't appear on their either (we ordered late last night and picked up one they had in stock early this morning, coffee was lacking).

So, we've not paid for them either.

Now I'm debating on how to do this cheap and cleanly. I'm not looking for a large wheel, or modifying the body in anyway.

Do I head back to the dealer, suck up the cost and get stock rims?
Or do I order something from tirerack and get my new tires fitted to them at a tire place locally? If I went for this option, what size specifically 15*6.5 or 15*7 I suspect?

If anyone can help out a newbie ...

The dealer did you a favor, you just don't know it yet. Look around online and find some nice 15" wheels for less money than the dealer upgrade. Check sites like http://www.tirerack.com http://www.tires.com and http://www.victoriatire.com for lots of options and pricing. Order the wheels you want and then have your stock tires swapped over locally. You can fit your stock tires easily to anything up to a 15x7 and stretched onto a 15x8.

If you have any questions about fitment of a particular wheel just post them up here and we'll do our best to help.

I was really hoping someone would say that ... the only part of getting them at the dealer I liked was getting them included in the financing, but thats what credit cards where invented for! (just don't tell the wife I said that, she thinks I'm nuts wanting rims)

Thanks for the info, I'm going to go looking

If I were looking to get a set of 15" wheels for my xB I would probably get something with a lower offset. Something around +25 to +38 depending on the width. This will give you a more flush look and a deeper lip. This really is a must if you plan on running smaller wheels.

yeash , 15's can be sexy , check out the sweet sportmax 15's.

cheapest/best place to buy them is www.victoriatire.com

if you don't plan on lowering your car these will fit no problem at all. and theyre cheap! or they have them in 7 inch widths as well.

Yes, Rota makes decent, cheap wheels. Their website is rotawheels.com IIRC. You can buy them at www.jaydm.com or www.machiii.net or other places. Just search a little. A set of just wheels should be about $450 shipped.

I would recommend 15x6.5 wheels and 205/55-15 tires if you get new tires as well. Easy fitment, mounting, no rubbing, smooth ride, and the speedo won't change.

Thats What I'm talking about. I got my Voxx 15x7 / +38 offset from discount tire. 89 bucks a rim.

I also suggest spacing out the rear wheels OTG style.

Then you can run your steelies with some trim rings/chrome lugs for the winter.

I think it's fairly obvious that most people ignore the dealer wheels then

I'm going to have to go shopping. I want to avoid modification and stick with clean, so some fairly neat rims, with the stock rubber will do the job for me I think.

Thanks for the help and advice! This is a great place for a new Scion owner to get some research done!

Thats what they all say......

Once you start trolling around on this board you will see how easy some modifications actually are and how much they improve the over all look of your ride.
Thats what happened to me. I wasn't going to do anything except get a set of 15s for the winter and 17s for the summer. That didn't last long. Now I'm running H-techs, put in a injen short ram air intake, otg + 5mm spacers in the rear, debaged the xB in the back, arm rest installed, and a few other things..... its not much compared to some of the kidds on here, but.......... its contagious.

It's a slippery slope!

Looking at prices and aftermarket (Scion and thirdparty) I'm kind of glad I went stock from the dealer, I can get much nicert stuff later on ...

and last night my wife actually said (without prompting) "You know, blue LEDs in the footwells would look kind of cool ..."

I think she may be turning ....
