i ordered a wheel and tire package, thought i was getting P205 50 R16 but i got 40. maybe i'll get new tires. also, whenever i've ordered wheel+tire combo's in the past they always come with those hub centric rings, these didn't have them, is it bad if i don't use them. how can i tell if i need them? thanks

where'd you order that crappy package from? They definetly should have come with hubcentric rings.

This is why ordering from discount no name places can cause a problem. When I ordered my package from TireRack, they double checked everything about the sizes, included hubcentric rings already installed, and new lug nuts.

yep, they came balanced. the package was 699 shipped w/Ventus Hankook tires. so i guess its bad not to use the rings? the rims seemed to fit alright. i can't tell

if your wheels start vibrating then you need hubcentric rings. if not you're good to go.

I have hankooks, not bad tires. Is it me or does the rears look smaller than the fronts? If you were to slam that rig it would be wayyyy low.

Go ahead and put the rings on, they wont hurt a thing.

hankooks from my own and close friends experiences suck. blow outs , total tread seperation , chunks of treads randomly coming off from just one tire. chunks coming off from all tires. bubbles in teh sidewall. bad bad stuff. never again will i go hankook or nankang.

 

With tires, you get what you pay for. I'll always stick with the quality brands like BFG, Pirelli, etc.

not exactly. those tires may have higher quality but treadwear , noise , grip may not be as good as others let alone their extra price. i just stay away from hankooks , nankangs , and dunlops.

I doesn't seem like anyone answered your question about the hub centric rings. If you don't have them, your wheels will be mounted off center of the hub and will cause vibrations at speeds of ~50mph or greater. They're cheep to get. You can get them thru Tire Rack in plastic or metal for $15 I think.

As for the lowering springs without shocks, you'll wear out the stock shocks fast that way. That's what I did. Within several months I had to get new shocks too. As for loading my lowered car with aftermarket shocks and springs, my new weight limit is around 650lbs compared to the stock 800lbs.

I'm running 205/50R16 too. The 50 series will help fill your wheel well a bit more (about a half inch larger than the 40 series all around), but no where near as much as lowering.
