Does anyone know which are better? I have two sets on order, one of each. . . don't ask. . .heh heh.
Anyway, when I was searching around SL I couldn't find anything. While searching the internet I got mixed information. Something along the lines of this.
Poly Carb rings. . . don't rattle, or wear out.
Metal rings. . . don't disform, or wear out.
all I can say is WTF? If you're running either let me know what's up. I'm sure either one is fine but I mean what is one to believe?

If the rings are of the proper size, both the center-bore of the rim and the hub-bore of the car, you'll be fine.
BTW, most Toyotas have a 54.1mm hub-bore. Most aftermarket rims have a bore between 72mm-74mm. So if your rims are....let's say....73mm, then you'll need a "73/54.1" hubring. You probably already knew this....but for those who might not......
I was in the same spot you were in and ordered the plastic ones from my local discount tire. Then I see discount tire direct selling the metal ones on ebay. So I returned the plastic ones and asked why they didn't offer the metal ones. The answer I got was that for most people the plastic ones are fine so we just use those.
If you think about it, the wheel sees a lot of forces(esp in cornering) and I would not want a plastic there that can deform. Also, how can the metal ring "rattle" when it is torqued down between the wheel and the hub? If it is really rattling, then the wheel is loose and you have a lot more problems than a rattling hubcentric ring.
To sum it up... go with the metal ones.

Sounds good, I ordered them from both discount tires and Lakeshore Wheel and tire. The closest discount tire is in ohio, and they should be here soon, I hope. The lakshore wheel and tire ones are plastic but I ordered them two days ago and I haven't even received an confirmation on shipment email. . . I'm gonna call today. not very happy with Lakeshore at the moment.
BTW I am running rota grids, These specific rims are using a 67mm centerbore so I ordered the 67/54.1mm rings.
update: I just got off the phone with Lakshore, turns out the order was processed yesterday and I am looking at a 5-7 day wait. . .poo, why can't people who sell rims have these on hand. Makes me wonder if they are putting them on without the rings?

If you use the metal rings, be sure to smear a bit of anti-seize on the rings so they don't lock themselves onto the hub. The plastic ones don't have the seizing problem.
As to how well either might stand up, in several of my 4X4s with leaf springs, the bushings in the spring ends and the anti-squeak pads between leaves were all 'plastic.' Many suspension designs these days use 'plastic' bushings, the doors on your box use plastic bearings in the hinges.
Properly designed plastic parts can do a lot of jobs just fine.
If I were going to race and expected to have my disc brakes running cherry red, I might lean toward the metal because of the heat, but for normal driving, there is probably not all that much difference.
Pick one - choice is yours.

well I should have both by the end of next week, I might just go plastic, cause if they wear out or whatever I'll have the metal ones. I was like most thinking rims were were rims. But now I know better, now only if the people in the area I live in new what the hell was going on. I went to six different places and only one could give me any answers most of the other ones, just looked at me like I was stupid.

UPDATE
I received the metal hubcentric rings before the palstic ones, I couldn't stand the constant vibration at 60+ mph. I will tell you that once installed it is MUCH better, I still get a little vibration at 70+ mph but I'll chalk that up to needing a balance. Plus I feel a little safer, don't know why just do. In the mean time I'll be saving up for the OTG shims.
I didn't think 13mm was going to make a difference, I guess it did in my case, the centerbores are 67mm/54.1mm. To be honest I'm not sure if I am going to switch off to the plastic ones, I might next brake job just to see, but for now I'm all smiles.
