You'll have to use a tool to squeeze the piston back. It takes some force, but it will retract enough to fit around the new pads. Make sure you don't cause the brake fluid reservoir to overflow.
I usually use my giant channel locks or a large C-clamp. Also use your old pad over the piston while squeezing. And loosen the oil reservoir cap prior.
