Default Drum to Disk Brake Conversion?

Looks like I will have my xB in a few days. Unfortunately my budget limits me to a base model, and since neither of my parents can drive stick, an automatic.
Just in case they ever have to drive it. Anyways, the first thing I want to do with it is put the wheels from my old Volvo S70 on, as it needs its stock rims back on to trade in.

How much would it cost me to have someone Install Disks Front and Back? (preferably not the dealer)

Rear disc conversion will cost you about $1000 in parts and labor, in my opinion, NOT WORTH IT!!! Dont do it there is no point to in making your car rear discs unless you plan on making your car a show car, but for everyday driving and considering you just got the car, dont worry about it, leave it stock and spend the grand else where. With $1000, you can gte a FULL exhaust, intake, pulley, springs, shocks, short shifter, pedals, shift **** and maybe some headlights.

Default .....Disk Parking Brake?.....

I agree. Do not do it. See for yourself how the xB brakes are.

"These brakes grab like Arnold Schwarzenegger at a rowdy movie set."

Electronic brake distribution causes all four to break evenly,
not more in the front and less in the rear. Try it, you may be satisfied. Try a panic stop.

A rear dics conversion is high on any car. $1000 isn't bad really. It's not really worth the money but if you want to go for it that's on you. I know what you're saying about the look though.

I'm also wondering how you're going to get the Volvo wheels on your xB?

Just my 2 cents...

If you are going for show that's one thing but if you want improved braking then upgrade the front disks, pads and a set of stainless steel lines.

Brake wise, just upgrade to better pads. It stops really good stock. Get the stick and with the money you save use it toward your brake upgrade.
Are your parents making your payments? If not, get what YOU want . Why should you suffer with an auto if you don't want one??

The auto is WAY slower too! I wouldn't let my parents drive my Box anyhow . Hell, my wife barely gets to drive mine.

If there was a kit to convert the rear to disc for less than $1500, I would do it tomorrow. Simplying converting the parts wont do though. On an abs, trac, vsc controlled car like ours, you really need to make sure the brake tq is ballanced. Its not just the parts. There is a system.

I changed my mind about all that...I was going for a better look, but I went with the trim rings instead.

As for the automatic deal...the loan is in my Dad's name ...but I am paying for it. I dont live with them, but their philosophy was that if they ever HAD to drive it, i.e. an emergency, they couldnt....besides, after having it for a few weeks, I am really glad I got an auto. Atlanta traffic can be a _____.

my rear disc conversion ran me about $400, unless you are getting full on drilled and slotted rotors with Brembo brakes it should not be that expensive.
