Default back pain from suspension or seats

Posted this in interior as well, because I'm trying to track down the cause of the problem. Love the car, but my back hurts when I drive it. Any thoughts? About to change the shocks to Monroe. Anyone else's back hurt???

seats. You're not sitting right, or the seats don't give you enough support.

How do I fix this? Have the seats worked on, or with a back support.

adjust the seats, change the angles by raising up the front with larger bolts and washers, shange the angle to the back rest, use pillows, etc.

On long trips, if I lean the seats back my back ends up hurting - if I put them as upright as possible, I end up fine.

(Changing to the Monroes and to better tires with taller sidewalls than stock helped, too.)

The stock seats have no springs in the bottom. It is simply a pan with foam on it. I had the seats re-worked by a trim shop but finally gave up and ordered a set of Procar Elite seats. they do have spring construction in the seat and are not overly expensive. They have not come in yet but I will post with an update when they do.

Thanks for the info and ideas. I am going to try a lumbar support, change shocks, and see how I do. FlyerI, let me know how the seats work out...just in case.

I'm 6'3" and raised the front of the seats about an inch. I regularly take 10+ hour road trips with zero back problems. These are some of the best stock seats I've ever gotten with a car. The monroe shocks do smooth out the ride and may help with your problems.
Also try adding some spacers (about 3/4" worked for me) and longer bolts to the front seat brackets. The seats are almost tilted forward from the factory. When the front of the seat is raised a bit it completely changes the comfort level.

^^ I'll be doing this tomorrow. Time to take a trip to Lowes!

Would you happen to have a bolt size?

Don't remember. Just take one of the pass side ones out first to use for size.
I used the stock bolts from when I did my OTG spacers. Same size but longer.

My old MR2 had a lumbar support bar that was adustable. Alas--no such thing on the box. I would recommend looking for a support to put behind your back. This will force you to have your spine at a better angle and I think will relieve some discomfort.
