Default Energy Suspension Bushing Upgrade for Rear Shock Monroe 5870

Well I haven't installed the Performance Sway Bar End Link Bushing Set for the front xB sway bar. I will later tonight. As i was looking through summit racing and energy suspension's web site ... I came across Polyurethane 5/8" Shock EYE Bushings and 3/8" Shock Tower polyurethane grommet set to replace all the rubber pieces in the rear shocks.

Here is a list of what i did get ... I do not know if this will work with the 5987 Monroe.. I have this installed on 5870 Monroe shocks coupled with Megan Racing springs.

Energy Suspension - Part Numbers.

ENS-9-9.8126G - Energy Suspension Shock Tower Bushings (Grommets)
Bushings, Shock, Polyurethane, Black, Bayonet Tower End, .625 in. Length, .375 in. ID, 1.250 in. OD, Set of 4

ENS-9-9.8116G - Energy Suspension Shock Bushings
Bushings, Shock, Polyurethane, Black, Straight-Style, 1.438 in. Length, .625 in. ID, 1.063 in. OD, Set of 4

These parts are really cheap.. 3.95 and 3.05.

To make installation of the shock eye bushing easier.
-Jack up any tire on the xB.
-Place new shock eye bushing on ground underneath tire.
-Place shock end on top of new shock eye bushing.
-Slowly lower the tire ... this should apply pressure to allow the bushing to insert into the shock eye.
-Jack up the same tire ... Voila. The bushing is in.

Happy installing.

Default ....I can afford this mod....

Any aplicable grommet for the Monro 5987?
Isn't it the 5987 that most of us have swapped out rear shocks to?
That is what I used. Any gromets for that shock?
AND...
Is it the same size / shape as the 5987 and these gromets will work for it also.

Anyone know of any differances? Anyone ever seen both side by side? 5987 vs. 5870

Here is a picture of the 5870 Monroe's in relation to the Stock KYB. Look at the bottom picture. There is a metal insert just like the stock KYB's. The 5870 had no such metal insert in between the shock eye bushing. I don't know if it'll work or not.

Here is a picture of the Monroe 5987 with a Koni and Stock KYB

Hope that helps. I can only comment on the 5870's.

FYI ... Summit has the Progress Springs for $94 .. vs. $175 over at the other places. If anyone is interested in a nice set of springs, i would go this route.

Good luck trying to get the bushings out of the Monroes. When I first tried to install mine I thought the metal sleeves need to be taken out but later found out they could be left alone. The bushings are formed (read melted) into the lower mount. It will take alot of work to remove them. I would just leave them alone. You will not see any improvements by changing them to polyeurothane. IMO Just get a rear swaybar and be done with it.
