I was looking at options to upgrade the tires on the stock black wheel with hubcap ... The 185 60 15 is really an odd size with no other good choices except the Goodyear RS-A or a Bridgestone Potenza RE92. Since the stock black steel is a 15x6 ... would it be better to upgrade to a 195 55 15 or maybe even a 205 55 15. It should be able to fit. any suggestions, pros, cons, etc.

 

remember to calculate the stock tires diameter...
becuz when u get different tire sizes than stock, the speedo will be off a couple mph

 

I would seriously consider going with aftermarket wheels, even 15" aftermarket. They can be had for a reasonable amount and can improve both performance and looks dramatically.

Plus, with a 15x7 or 15x6.5 wheel, you have a much larger selection of tires.

 

Stock diameter is 23.7 " ....
195 55 15 diameter give or take a tenth or two is 23.5"
and 205 55 15 diameter give or take a tenth or two is 23.9"

Both pretty close to the original.

 

Yeah i know nacy. I was looking at 17's with tires for 650 out the door which isn't bad. I just have to drive to Sacramento to get them. But i was directing the topic to people who'd eventually like to upgrade their tires without getting new rims.

 

actually i was gonna upgrade the rims and keep the tires a lil while if possible...

Unfortunately about $300 each in 15x7... but only 9lbs each!

Someday I'll get my stock rims weighed. Based on the weight of the steel wheels (17-19lbs most likely) I'll finally order some SSRs.

Those Bridgestone Potenza RE92's are okay...except the last time I remember, they are rated at 120 treadwear. Meaning, like me, when I had the same type (Camry) you will be replacing them every 20-24K miles. Also, all Potenza's (what I've heard) lose alot more air compared to some tires. You need to check the cold air pressure every 3 weeks. I currently have Pirelli's 4000 on my Camry and they hold air, even when it's freezing cold outside. BTW, DO NOT buy Dunlop tires. According to this guy I know who know's a Dunlop tech rep, the tires are soft to the point that they wear out faster. Also Dunlop's produce in Brazil are inferior to the one produce in Italy.

 

Heck, If you have 650 to spend, there are plenty of sites that offer 17" wheel/tire pkgs. for that price delivered to your door.

 

Not to shamelessly plug my wheel and tires for sale, but there are lots of good used wheel/tire combos at affordable prices, too (and not just mine).
