I know everyone is into lowering their ride but my wife wants an xA for use as a first responder vehicle for our fire dept. It will see light off road duty and have red and white strobes front and rear plus a siren.
What would be the best way to gain an inch or so of ride height?

Whats up man.....try and find one of those DONK people and they might know...they raise all kinds up and put on 28's and stuff....you might be able to swap out spindles from a toyota truck lift kit I don;t know don;t listen to me
You could try taller tires, assuming they'd fit. A coil over swap could probably do it, but it'd be more expensive.
If it really needs the ground clearance and to go off road, probably better to start with a vehicle that already has more ground clearance? The price for a low end, 4 cylinder pickup is in the same ball park as an xA. And the suspension is built to take the abuse.

She has a Jeep Wrangler now that got smashed and wants the mileage and only occasional off road (dirt roads and farm fields) nothing real muddy or unlevel that would require articulation.
The tire thing would be an idea but don't want to change final drive ratio unless necessary. I'm thinking adjustable spring spacers or using xB springs.

Well i have 195/65/15 tires on my car. Being that the stock tire is 23.7 inches diameter and the 195/65/15 being 25 inches. you're halfway there. This tire does rub on full lock sometimes and will probably not allow use of tires chains.
I have a set of xB springs in the garage. if you're interested i'll sell them to you for cheep.

I wonder if that size tire is available in an all terrain tread? Guess I'll have to start more research.

I'll prolly fab up something like that and one for the gas tank out of aluminum. I should get with that guy that rallies his xB for some off road tricks.
I would say that first off .... your not going to get the same response out of a doorstop as you would a Jeep, its just not going to happen. That and if your dealer find out that while you were in the middle of a field and either hit a large rock/stump or bottom out in a whole and break the car .. i dont think that would be covered under warrenty.
Still interested in gaining some height? Try going to a bigger wheel/tire. I run a 17X7 with a 215/45R17 tire. When i go back to stock for the winter i drop a minimum of an inch.

Whatever isn't covered under warranty will be covered by insurance anyhow so she should be good to go.
CBSIMONSEZ , What did you mean by "response"? I know the manual xA will be quicker and more fun to drive. The Jeep is a slug even with the 3.73 gears.
I'll prolly save the stock tires for the xB and get her some all season M/S 185/65/15 for the Wedge.

By response ... i mean that its a Jeep ... its meant to go off road and onto dirt roads and grassy fields. The doorstop is not. It was in no way shape or form made to leave any stable flat surface.
Just look at the tires on each. The xA has a street tire. The Jeep has a trail tire. Im just trying to look for the out that the dealership will give you when you rip something off the undercarriage and have it towed with mud, rocks, and grass in every crevace.

You can get spring helpers from Pep Boys. They are about $15 a set and they dont allow the stock spring to settle as much as it should thus raising the car. That setup would ride like crap and you'd have more wheel gap than I'd ever wanna see on a car...
