Default Painting Tails ... VANS?

Okay, so I've been wanting to red out my tails, I don't think I have the patience to do an overlay, and I don't trust myself to crack open the tail to paint the inside. So... It looks like painting the outside is the only choice left.
I know that lots of people have used model transparent spray, but I've seen ones that became pink over time.

Has anyone used or heard of success with this?

I'm just wondering if it's worth the price premium and hold up longer than Testors or such.

Thanks in advance!

heres mine with overlay. did it in less than an hr. I read somewhere here that those things fade in time, i was going to do that but i think im going to wait till i get enough money so i can get the LED tails. for now, ill keep it like this.

Default Painted Tails

I painted the tails on my xB and on my Harley with Krylon Stained Glass spray paint that I found at Hobby Lobby. I did the Harley about 1-1/2 years ago and you still can't see the difference between the stock red part and the rectangle that I painted. I did my xB about 2 months ago and they still look great. I wash my car at least twice a week at Turtle Wax and it has had no affect. We'll see what winter does pretty soon but I'm confident that they will do OK. Here's a shot of the xB tails.

Striper, did you paint as-is or did you do that whole wet sand process? Did you clearcoat afterwards?

Default Painted Tails

No sanding at all. I cleaned them with wax and grease remover, masked off the back up light areas and painted. Two coats on each. No clear. let dry, unmask, reinstall, drive.

Sweet, they look like they're holding up well... that might be a good route.

I haven't but if you want some good looking tails that will not fade get them professionally done. There is a guy in NY that does a really good job. i have had my tails and headlights done by him. Very reasonable pricing too. I think tails are about $80 plus return shipping. Check out his website: www.jonstintedtails.com tell him cisco sent you.
