Rim setup Question
so im lookin to get a pair of 17s for my box but I'm new to wheel setups. I saw the buyers guide for wheels awhile back but not quite crystal clear on everything. I'll have a 1" drop on my box and not sure what the offsets should be. Heres what im thinkin about:
if you go with a 17 x 7.5 with an offset of +42 you will be fine. Any offset bigger than that you will need spacers to clear the shock. You may want a spacer anyway so i will put the wheels flush with the fender (it looks alot better that way).
17 x 7 you should have no problems at all. A 1" drop isnt much so you should be fine with that. You could get a 45 series tire with those rims and still have no problems.

The only problem with spacers is that they negate the use of the hub rings used on some aftermarket wheels to get good hub centering, as well as negating the hub centering circle on wheels that dont need the hub rings. This can lead to a slight vibration since the wheel may not center perfectly on the lugs alone. May well be worth it for the look (or clearance if you need it). I had spacers on the rear of my 1972 Suburban and if I installed the wheels and noticed a vibration, I would loosten and retighten the wheels (therefore slightly changing the centering on the lugs) a time or 2 which resulted in minimized vibration form this source. (hadda find the "sweet spot"). Not saying dont use spacers but food for thought anyway.
I live close and have a set of wheels with a similiar design for sale.

They have a more agressive width and offset than what you will find with those enkies. They are 17x8.5 so they have a lot of lip, and the offset is +25 so they will sit nice and flush with the sides without using spacers. Additionally, rubbing wont be a concern, I am lowered a little lower than 2inchs and have never rubbed.

17X7 or 7.5 with 42mm offset is about perfect. Use 215/40 or 205/45 tires and you should have zero rubbing issues with a 1" drop. Forget spacers unless you want problems.

And I have never had to use hubcentric rings on a set of aftermarket wheels. This could have a lot to do with the installation as well. I do it myself, and watch if they ever have to be pulled off for service. A properly mounted wheel that has been balanced should not have any vibration problems. Even without hubcentric rings.
