One of my friends installed my 2" lowering springs but in the directions it said to cut the (bump stop?) in half i think thats what is was called....its a small rubber piece only found on the front ones. Now that I am thinking about it wouldn't that effect ride quality; he didn't cut his probably cause he never read the directions but it feels a little weird.....I believe the springs are from partshippers

This won't hurt. There should be no difference in the ride, it will just bottom out earlier as the wheel travel is reduced. Better than cutting too much off.......

 

I installed Goldlines, they had no instructions in the box. Later on their site I saw that you are supposed to cut 1" off the rubber snubber on the strut. Every now and then when I hit a bump the suspension travel is stopped by hitting the snubber (you can feel it, feels like bottoming the suspension...which it is). This bottoming can eventually damage the car. I have not removed my springs to cut the snubber yet. It has only bottomed about 2 times on bad bumps (I still might go remove that inch). It it doesnt bottom with any frequency then you can likely leave it. IF however it bottoms more than once in a long while, I highly recemmend dissassembling the strut and cutting the bumper as directed. Unfortunately this means having an alignment done yet again to be perfectly accurate. (you did have an alignment perfromed after installing the springs didn't you?? The suspension alignment changes when you install the springs. It makes toe-in changes that can eat tires.) If it wasnt aligned I would certainly cut the snubbers before doing so.

you dont. my car was in the green after swapping the springs, as well as the four other scions i did before doiung mine, evry time i put one on the rack for alignment its a waste of time

 

Alot of cars are ok but do you want to be the one that isn't?? ...to avoid the minor cost of an alignment ($50). Mine had significant toe in changes that would have caused fast tire wear if left un-adjusted, not to mention a significant impact on handling.
