Default Konig Imagines, problems?

I have had these for about 6 months on my scion xb. I have the glossy black with machined lip. The last couple of times I have washed the car I have noticed that the lugnuts are actually beginning to rust, which ____es me off seeing as you spend good money for rims the lugnuts should not rust. I also noticed this last time I washed it that it seems a clearcoat or something or some sort is on the machined lip. Does anyone know if this stuff is suppose to chip off like it does or come off at all. I sent the company an email and I am still waiting a reply. Also, since I will have to replace the lugnuts does anyone know a good place to get some stainless steel ones?

Thanks,
Kyle

is there anyway to prevent this or reapply it? What will happen to the rim if it is chipped off?

nothing will happen. it's just in the partially there/partially gone phase that looks bad. onece the clearcoat is gone you have to use polish sometimes to keep em looking best.

you can also get the lip or whole wheel re-clearcoated but that ain't gonna be cheap , and If I remember correctly the tire must be unmounted to do it.

Is this common for Konig or rims for that matter? It seems like Konig would make their product better and stop it from doing this. What about the lugnuts?

Did you always clean off any brake dust that was on the wheels? You cant just blame Konig, it could be there fault, but its probably lack of cleaning that did it.

That would be understandable if I never cleaned it, but seeing as that they are cleaned every two weeks with the car I find it to be their fault.

Hey, I am starting this up again because I am still having problems with this clear coat chipping off the wheels and the wheels are washed every weekend. It seems to me that these are a manufacturer flaw, but I am having problems with them even responding back. Has anyone had these happen to theirs?

What have you been washing them with? If it's the same stuff the car is washed with, that should be fine. However, if you're using some type of "wheel cleaner", it may not be the correct type for clearcoated wheels. Even the kinds for all types can cause issues if it's left on the wheel too long, or dries before you can rinse it off.

I was washing it with the same stuff my car is washed with, which is what they told me when I sent Konig an email about this.

On the lugs you need to keep chrome lugs polished and waxed to seal them from rusting.
On the wheels... Where do you live?
Did you remove them for the winter (snow and salt exposure) season?
I know for a fact that salt is one of the leading factors to clearcoat peel.
It's also a good idea to keep the wheels waxed about once a month. It also makes them easier to clean.

Your not the only one with this problem. Heres pics of mine.

I was going to contact konig also, but looks like your not getting anywhere. I've been to different places around where I live, but know one seems to know what to do.

Yep, sorry to say this is clearly salt damage. Can't run nice wheels year round.

I hear that, but why not. Eventhough I only had them on for one snow fall. Everyother car runs wheels year round. You don't have change your wheels when you have stock wheels. My stepmom just bought a used Escape with the up graded wheel option form the factory. Still good as new. Mine barely see salt and turn to junk.

It sad that you can't but I have never been able to run nice ones in the snow. Even when I had chrome ones they would get pitted in one season.
The factory wheels usually take a few years before they start to peel but will eventually. I'm thinking they got a better clearcoat to begin with because of the cars warranty.
Just get with Konig and see if they will service their customer. If they don't, that should tell you alot about the company and don't give them your business in the future.

Discount Tire lugs will chip and rust. mine did. better to get some anodized lugs next time.

And Konig does not hold itself liable for rim damage. your out of luck there. Especially with salt damage. And never run your rims thru the auot wash. Soap stains the rims. You'll have to repolish them eventually. A friend did that to his Work's. I have never driven my Work thru the auto wash. On the other hand tho, I have a set of Konig Glides and I have used them thru two winters now. Funny how they haven't got wrecked yet. They outlasted the lugs which are rusted.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, mine look like the pics except not as bad. I live in northern Alabama so the salt on the ground is really not a problem. Will the rims still be ok without this clearcoat or with it chipping away? You talked about polishing them...what would you suggest? I appreciate the help.
