Default Popping Noise in Front Suspension When Turning Hard 2 Park

OK, hope someone can help with this. I thought I heard something the other day, but blew it off. Today I'd backed up to grab a parking space I'd passed, turned hard to get in the space and heard a "POP" come from the front suspension. I had the windows down and no? music on, so I was sure what I heard and where it came from. It sounded like when the CV joints were going out in my old Civic Wagon. prettty much.

I've done searches, but not found anything.

Any ideas, guys?

I have the same "problem." I do not recall it until after I put the 16 Motegis on with new rubber, and it only happens at hard turns. Can't wait to see what everyone else says.

Thanks Pimpin....
The only thing is, my suspension is still bone stock....factory alloys, too.
I've got the lowering springs in my storage room and got my eye on some rims.

Oh, and this is an 06...although with 29K

I had the same problem when I was running taller/wider tires. I believe the outer edge of the tire is catching the edge of the plastic piece that finishes the inside of the wheelwell when the wheel is fully cranked, which is the point the outer corner of the tire would be most extended forward. The tire kind of lifts the edge of it, then it "pops" back into place.
As soon as I changed tires to a set that was the same height as stock (same wheels), it never happened again...

***Ooops, I didn't see your second post! If you've got stock tires and wheels, I'm afraid I don't know what to tell you - mine only did it with wider/taller tires.

It sounds like it may be your drive shafts. This is somewhat of a common concern - at least where I'm from. This is covered under your Powertrain Warranty. So to resolve this issue, bring it in to your dealership to have it replaced.

Thanks for the input guys.

I'll be calling the dealer on Monday. Hope it's not too big a deal.

Any other comments appreciated.

If you had the wheel cranked all the way, it was probably hitting the bump stops for the steering. I haven't looked on the xB, but most cars have stops with little plastic caps on top. If you regularly turn to full lock, they can wear through to the metal and make popping and grinding noises. The fix is to replace the caps and/or grease the stops.

Ah, Stew, that sounds like what someone local told me. Hum, that may not be a big deal then. Hope that's the case.

Thanks a bunch.

Well, Stew was right. I took the car to the dealer today and they said it was the bump stops, but that they were OK. That's assuming they actually looked at it, but hey....

Thanks again Stew!

No problem. Even if they said they were ok, you could always slap a little axle grease on them. Not sure how long it'd last though.

The dealership should have at least done that for you...especially if your XB is stll under warranty.

Maybe they did, he didn't mention greasing them. I'll look under there myself, maybe next weekend. Think it's gonna be rainy here this weekend.

I'm having the same problem, my Scion is stock, with stock size aftermarket rims, and stock tires on them. I have the same noise when I make wide turns, on hills I hear it the most. I only have 1000 miles on my box. Maybe its the Bump Stops too?

Humm....Dark3D...I dunno, mine's always been in a parking situation, pretty much stopped and changing directions. Maybe, since you've got larger wheels....wouldn't hurt to have them look at it. If not now, maybe at the next oil change.
