Toyota Motor (TM) said late Wednesday that it is recalling about 95,700 vehicles in 19 states because low temperatures can cause power-brake assist failures.
The recall involves 2009 and 2010 model year Toyota Corolla, Matrix and 2008 and 2009 Scion xD vehicles, all of which are equipped with 1.8-liter engines, the company said in a statement late Wednesday. If an affected vehicle is operated in extremely low temperatures, ice may accumulate at the brake system port and decrease braking power, increasing the time it takes to stop the vehicle, the company said.
The states involved in the recall are Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
"Toyota dealers will install a newly designed intake air connector which relocates the brake system vacuum port," Toyota said in a statement. The repair will take about one hour, depending on the dealer's work schedule, at no charge to the vehicle owner, Toyota said.
