[col:fc64dbd7aa]Driftking's Graphite Supra

Wes Harris didn't see many Supras roaming Tacoma, Washington, in 1998 when he purchased his first "real" car. Sure, there was the occasional non-turbo, third-generation being daily-driven by 40-year-old women, and the even more occasional trick MKIV that would wander down from Seattle, but in Tacoma a Supra turned heads like a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. Bitten by the streetracing and drifting bugs, Wes was on the lookout for a Supra he could transform into his dream. He found that car after months of searching and gladly sacrificed his Accord coupe to the cause. One itty, bitty loan from his dad and he was driving a Supra Twin Turbo -- previously only accessible to him via video games and Option tapes shipped straight from Japan.

Of course, a stock Supra can be fun -- but not as much fun as a modified Supra! As luck would have it, a race against a Corvette ZR1 led to an overheated 2JZGTE... and an unhappy bowtie driver. The next day Wes parked the car in his new 4-car garage and started Johnny 5's worst nightmare. There were Supra parts littered from end to end in the garage... dirty, oily, greasy parts everywhere. After a few months of cleaning and frantic mouse clicking Wes ended up with a fully-built 2JZ free of a single speck of dirt. A new front-mount intercooler, single turbo upgrade and internals went back into the car. Now it was a joy to drive, but still a little too anonymous on the street.

Giant boxes containing a blitz bodykit, Rod Millen spoiler and AB-Flug hood showed up at the garage. The parts were immediately bolted to the car, unpainted and in the nude. The silver paint didn't look too hot with the off-color components, so the car was sent to a nearby paintshop for new color. Wes chose his favorite shade of Lexus gray, as found on the IS300. But little did he know that the bodyshop would fall on hard times and his car wouldn't get completed for almost two years! The Supra was quickly stripped and remedied of dings and other defects, but then it was pushed to the side to make room for quick-dollar insurance jobs. For a year the car gathered dust, and even small puddles of rainwater while it briefly sat outside in the elements. A threat of litigation got the bodyshop back in gear and the car was finally delivered in beautiful metallic perfection. New 19" wheels straight from Japan were bolted on and the car looked ready to race.

The car has been finished for over a year now and doesn't get driven too much. Wes opened a performance shop in Beaverton, OR, with friends and largely works on drift vehicles (Nissans! Yuck!) and works toward his goal of becoming a D1 driver. Good luck, Wes!
