Default Yaris as a first car?

Is the Yaris a good first car? I'm thinking about getting a manual Barcelona Red S sedan but my dad might force me to get an automatic . Are they reliable, safe, etcetera?

well since its your first car and not knowing how familiar with cars you are in general, being sixteen and all. However, you should check out www.kbb.com and do all of your research there, also try www.msnautos.com and autotrader.com are all great resources. Personally its a tiny little car, im sure that it is safe but i think that if you plan on any roadtips or college move in days the xa would be a much smarter decision.

a first car should never be a new car. $h!t happens, expecially to new inexperienced drivers.

don't buy a new car, something will happen, you'll hit something, get hit, cause an accident, whatever, it will be out there waiting for you in your near future when you start driving.

get a good used car like a toyota corolla, echo, scion xa/xb honda civic etc. anything good, reliable and fuel efficient and easy to fix. and if you wreck it, you can walk away from it (unless it was a really really bad wreck.)

Yes, that would make a perfect first car, IMO. Try for the manual though. It will make you focus on your driving and on the road more. Plus if you know how to drive a manual you can drive pretty much anything.
