~Upgrade to SL software~
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We would like to let you know that we intend to upgrade Scionlife this coming Monday, July 27th to a new software.
Why are we doing this?
A number of reasons - the first and primary reason is the slowness and access problems ScionLife has experienced as of late, which we have been unable to successfully rectify.
Another reason is that ScionLife's software has not been updated for a long time, and this upgrade to a new software (we are moving from phpBB to a software called vBulletin) will enable us to get to install some cool features you have all been asking for, things like having embedded video's, better access from mobile devices etc. etc.
When will it be done?
We will be turning the site “off” 9am PDT on Monday, and we anticipate the site will be down for most of the day as a result.
We will migrate all the information to vBulletin, then go through with the site’s admin (Tomas) and ensure all the settings are tweaked appropriately before the site is turned on.
Will anything be lost in this conversion?
No data will be lost in this conversion, all the posts/threads/user information will still exist, as will things like your user status, avatars, signatures etc.
How will this affect me using Scionlife?
The interface to do a couple of things may change slightly in the forum, but the changes should be relatively minute.
The only aspect of the site that will be changing is the forum, all other aspects (tech/profiles/registry/albums etc.) will stay as they are currently.
You will now have 2 profile pages however – one vBulletin one, and the same one as you do currently, this is so you can still easily access registries/albums from that page.
What would we like from you?
To enjoy the new Scionlife and the features it offers J
Also, as we will be launching it as a “Beta” version – we would appreciate any feedback you have on the new format/issues you encounter.
We will try out best to help you through any problems you have, and accommodate any suggestions you have!
What will it look like?
Here are some screenshots of the new Scionlife.

We would like to sincerely thank you for your patience while we have had the existing slowness and access problems, and also apologize for it.
We are really excited about the new Scionlife Beta coming to you shortly.

Hey that looks familiar...
It's really pretty nice so far. I've personally had a couple little gripes with it, but they're just VB things compared to the phpBB stuff now.
I think as long as everything goes smoothly in the changeover and you guys are patient for the first couple weeks, everything will be fine.

Some of us have been secretly playing over in the test site for the last couple of weeks as the sort things out, and it is amazing how it is all coming together. The software running the site right now is an accumulation of six years of custom hacks and rewrites. Because of that, some of the existing features just do not translate to ANY commercial software.
Those really "special" things are being kept "as is" in the New ScionLife.com....
It may seem a little odd to have some of the new "stuff" running next to some of the old, but that is the ONLY way to make the move without losing anything.
I think you guys will like th beta when it is turned loose in the wild late Monday.
