They should.. I would hope visit their respective regions on this site.. therefore if they actually read the posted sticky's, they would see the individual club listings, and or their thread with contact info, links, etc. Its just an idea. I understand your pain, but there are other ways around it naturally.. just gotta get creative

You can get a pretty cheap domain at www.godaddy.com

A .org site is something like $7 a month or something. VERY reasonable.

EDIT:

I just checked:

www.nvs-club.org through godaddy: $7.95/yr

Your own site: Priceless

The saying goes... gotta pay to play.. Darren has responsibilites as the admin of this site.. making choices like this does put some people out on the limb, but again.. its not hard to find a way around it. If the fact that you cannot post in secrecy is the issue.. then.. I guess there isn't a way around that.. none that I can see.

No matter what else is done here at ScionLife, there needs to be some sort of "Master List" of regional and national Scion clubs and their contact information.

One of the primary functions of a 'community center' like ScionLife should be to help folks get together, and that means recognizing clubs exist, and making it easy for folks to find them.

The mods are working on this now to figure out how to best accomplish this.

That only gets you the domain name - you would still need a place to host it at $100 or more a year, and someone capable of designing, setting up, and maintaining the site and it's forums.

I suspect something like that is in reality beyond the capabilities of most smaller clubs.

Starting a new club and growing it to something that can be self supporting has become more difficult, and most small regional clubs will always be small. There are only a very limited number of Scions in any small, local area, and only a limited number of those folks are 'joiners.'

The life of small intimate clubs is difficult.

Stu, I support my own personal domain, and have since 1983. Thing is, the work of designing, setting up, and maintaining a 'public' site with forums would keep ME away from setting up anything like that.

Small regional clubs in some more sparsely populated parts of the country are naturally limited in size by only having a hundred Scions in a hundred mile radius, and few folks want to travel 200 miles round trip for a meeting or get together every month...

In reality, local clubs of twenty members who are close enough to reasonably meet just won't usually have the ability to casually establish their own site.

Maybe there is an opportunity here for someone to establish a new site to support those small clubs with their own forum for a small, reasonable fee...

I dunno.

ScionClubs.org???

Webskills and $$ aren't even needed.

http://groups.google.com/

With some stickies and signature links, the word can be spread. Also, posts in the Regional areas could be prefaced with something like:

NVS: Meet tonight

or something to set it apart easily.

More Premium members and less freeloaders would help too... hehehe j/k

Yeah, I am not kicking clubs from the site, just asking them to share the same resources with other members in their area. It SHOULD actually increase the exposure that each club gets.

As far as what I need to do for each club...
- Create forum and organize it with the rest
- Create dedicated usergroup for club
- Create custom title for that usergroup
- Set forum permissions so regular members can't post in it
- Set permissions for usergroup to have access
- Set moderator for forum area
- Set moderator for group
- Edit menu to show club

Each time I set up a club I have to do each one of those things. Each time a club dies out I have to undo each of those things. The way these forums work it just isn't easy to create and remove private forums that are tied into usergroups easily.

I wouldn't do this unless it was for a good reason, and all of that work is just driving me nuts. There are MANY good alternatives to ScionLife... if this change disrupts your club to the point of breaking it up, etc, then maybe the forum issue isn't the real problem.

Please work with me here, guys. Providing the forums started as a favor but I feel like some people aren't thankful for that. For those of you that understand the situation: thank you.

i'm not asking you to add clubs. just dont delete the active ones now.

i'm very thankful that you have it but removing it suck total ****.

it isn't that our club will breakup but the ability for us to gain new member will be significantly reduced.

a lot of our club members found us from sl , post 90% of the time in club forums and sometimes in others. cutting groups will lose them.

i dunno apparently i'm just smoking crack and totally wrong.
