Can anyone please tell me why every time I leave SL or try to change my profile (like a photo) the site logs me back out????
I log back in....go to my profile....and I'm no longer logged in...

Am I doing something wrong???

There is a thread about it. You need to clear your cookies.
i do it, and a couple days later, same thing happens.
Since the redo, I can do my profile. But if I close the webpage and come back to SL, I am signed out.
