i thought that the OT section auto self cleans all the old post after 90 days but back in the day thats what they said

No, actually, Johnny, the only area that should "self clean" is the PPC section.

In PPC if a topic has not been replied to for over 30 days, it will "silently and quietly vanish away."

Everywhere else, things should pretty much hang on fiercely.
