Default tC Seat Belts are Locked???

There's a guy who got into a rear-end collision and his seat belts are locked. Anyone know how to disengage seat belts?

the mechanism might be damaged?

like they're locked as in they won't go all the way back in or won't come all the way out?
a sensor might have gotten retardoed...

Found this:
And check the label on the belt - if it says "Replace" it has been in a
severe enough accident to pull out that tag, then it is no longer useable.

Hey guys
The seatbelts not damaged. Its a safety precaution.
When your in an accident theres like a explosive charge in the seatbelt that fires of little pellets within the belt mechanism. Locking it in place. It happened to me too. If you go to an autobody repair shop they will remove the pellets for you. But the mechanism will not detonate in the future, either have it repaired or if your finiki about those things youll have to buy new ones.

Replacing seatbelts after an accident has been recommended since before they had the mechanism you described. When seatbelts do their job during an accident, the material and stitching is stretched, such that they're weaker than intended and might fail if you had to depend on them again. Now I've always been skeptical about that, and I think they might be ok, but that's the main reason replacement is recommended.

So I take issue with your statement, because while it is a safety precaution, whether or not they're damaged is debatable.

Aren't the explosive charges for the pretensioner? AFAIK they're intended to reduce the shock force on your body a bit, not really to "lock" the belt in place

But yes, they're like airbags... once it goes off, it has to be replaced.

i dont think so....i was there when the mechanic opened up my seatbelt.
Theres a cog and the explosive shoots little metal ***** in the gaps of the cog, effectively locking it in place. I also heard that this way insurance companies can see wether you were wearing your seatbelt when you crashed.

yeah dude you'll want to get those replaced, there's an explosive discharge in an accident and it's only good for one time, just like an air bag, they don't repack them like a parachute, haha!
