I want to buy a staggered 19x8.5, 19x9.5 wheel set. Can I put 225's on the wheels? or do I have to at lease to 235 tires?

225's would be a bit narrow for that width of a rim. To be honest I don't believe you can even go that small on a 9.5".

I'd recommend 235/35/19 on the front 8.5's and 255/35/19 on the rear 9.5's.

 

195mm = 6.5", 7" and 7.5"
205mm = 6.5", 7" and 7.5"
215mm = 7", 7.5" and 8"
225mm = 7.5", 8" and 8.5"
235mm = 8" and 8.5"
245mm = 8", 8.5", and 9"
255mm = 8.5", and 9"
265mm = 8.5" and 9"
275mm = 9" and 9.5"
285mm = 9" and 9.5"


those are safe tire sizes for different wheel widths

 

and i've seen a SUPER stretched 225 width on a 10" wide rim on an rx-7. stupid, VERY hard to get a shop to do it, but doable

 

 

I was doing searches on tire sizes earlier. I've made up my mind. Where can I find cheap 255-30-19 tires? Cheapest I found were $250 a piece.

 

I would run a 255-30 up front and 275-30 out back

naw you can get away with a 255 out back.

 

If you run a 255 on a 8.5 front its going to look perfect, if you run that same 255 out back on a 9.5 its going to be stretched and the side wall is going to lean in and the edge of the tire is not going to touch the edge of the wheel and since the front is perfect its going to make the back look even more like a bucket of _______s

 

ummm i have a 255 on a 10 wide and it doesn't look stretched at all. trust me a 255 on a 9.5 will be fine.

i have a staggered setup. 19x8.5 front on 215/35 and 19x9.5 rear on 225/35's. its the stretched look, but i think it looks really good.

 

Got any pics?? U running a wide-body or what?
