yeah the smell is normal, part of the break-in for brakes. It'll go away.

I bet when a waiter brings you a plate of food and tells you "Sir this is Hot" you are the one who taps the plate to make make sure it is!
Hope your finger is ok

Smell of brakes during break in is not something i was aware of, but quite possible.

However, i do know that most brake component manufacturers coat their rotors with a special substance to keep the metal from rusting or corroding during storage and shipment. That is why its common to see a little bit of white smoke from your brakes after putting on new rotors, even without hard braking.

 I do that. They place the plate in the wrong area, so I need to move it. As for touching the brakes, thats not something I have done.

first day of its break in period, i drove it on the freeway, and i could smell burning plastic somewhere. i guess there were some parts in plastic covers in the engine bay.

went away after a while but it was kinda odd and scary at the same time. :

Yeah, ANY burning smell freaks me out! Reminds me of 8 years ago, when I did my first stereo install, and the power wire burned up and melted... after that, all burning smells freaked me out.

You know, that reminds me of how humans in general are. You could have something that smells like total s**t, and say to your friend, "Dude, this smells like ____"

Your friend says, "Really? Let me smell!" *sniff* "Eugh, DUDE it DOES smell like ____!"

Same thing with anything that tastes bad too
