I really love these and have loved them for them since they came out, do you think that the 1600 lb weight is too much for our little 1.5 litre powerplant?

Teardrop trailers are more for like a new bug to pull. Plus, yes 1600 lbs is way to heavy too safely pull with an xB. I pull a 1000 lb. aluminum 14 ft. boat with my 1.6 Sentra and it struggles to do it.
Make a lightweight aluminum square trailer instead. That way you can control how much the final weight will be. Maybe even a nice little pop up would work.

You know, I was thinking that, I would really love a pop-up for this thing, the one we own is too large, and was actually destroyed by a single mouse this season... Do you know where I could find a little 2 person popup, or would it have to be custom made by a pro or home-made by me?

I know they make smaller fold up ones for Goldwings that are light weight. All I could suggest is google small popup travel trailers and see what's available.

I'm betting you want to drive up into NH or Vermont to go camping. Trying to tow something that heavy up into those hills with the xB will kill the car. Maybe not immediately, but soon enough.

When I was young(er) and (more) optimistic I had a 1980 Datsun 210 (1.8l engine, 5sp) which actually was rated to tow a 1000 pound trailer. We took it up into the Poconos. The first three summers were great. The fourth, the car blew a head gasket. Many tens of thousands of miles prematurely.

Neat trailer. We use an old Coleman pop-up, and even though it's only a 1000-lb trailer (yes, the same one) towing it is one of the reasons we keep the minivan.

Also make sure to add a tranny cooler if you have an auto. Hayden make a nice small aluminum one that will help prolong the life of the trans.

1600lb. would be too heavy for our little Boxes, but a small motorcycle trailer should be fine...a Pop-up would be a risk too, my small 8ft pop-up weighs over 1300lb loaded, still too heavy for an xB....

When going up hills with a heavy load downshift to 3rd and rev the engine more. This improves water pump speed and engine cooling as well as reduces tranmission load in the higher gears without a lot of fuel economy loss. Most important is to go easy on the gas and just wind the engine out more and for god sakes only do it with a manual tranny!

If one wanted to build a lightweight trailer with an aluminum frame and skin I don't see why a nice one couldn't be built at around 7-8 hundred pounds.
