Default Another Wrecked XB

I was on my way to work this morning and an oncoming car tried to pass a truck and didn't leave me any room. My only choices were hit him head on or take it off road. It was in a rural area so I went into a very shallow ditch hit a driveway, more specifically the concrete pipe allowing water to pass under the driveway, became airborne, landing and slid to a stop.

No one stopped initially. The truck that was being passed came back and gave their account of what happened to the trooper. Fortunately the trooper had stopped the guy for speeding a few minutes after the incident so he had all his information.

The front right of my car is messed up. The front wheel is busted and pushed back. The whole car twisted some because I can't even prop up the hood. The roof buckled around the sunroof. I don't have pics of the car yet. I just came home and we're calling the guys insurance.

I did keep a souveneir. This is part of my front rim.

Sorry to hear it. Glad you're ok. From the description you gave it sounds possibly totalled. That sucks. Good thing somebody got the guy's info.

Good luck!

man that sucks! I don't know what is going on lately.

Last week my front end got taken out by a re-tread in the middle of the road and yesterday my wife was rearended in her tc!

It sucks that we have to pay for some other A$$ that can't pay attention or maintain their vehicle.

Dude, that sucks. My condolences... but hey at least you're alive and ok. As much as we love our cars, they are replaceable, but a person isn't.

Not the Gen 1s

But seriously, as long as YOU didn't get hurt or killed be thankful. Your trusty xB kept you safe inside and took the damage.

Oh man... that sucks...
Unfortunately, it sounds like they'll total it.

Start checking dealers for used boxes...

Could've been a lot worse though, at least you're all good.

Thanks for all the great comments and well wishes. It's so nice to part of such a caring and supportive community.

Here are some pics. The car looks deceptively good becaues I didn't run into anything. It's the alignment and twisting of things that's hard to see in pics that's the real problem plus any damage under the car that can't be seen yet.

Here's a shot from the side.

Here's the top. You can see the buckling where the car twisted. The sunroof is also out of whack.

Here's both sides of the hoods. There is no gap between the hood and fenders. The passenger side of the hood is actually on top of the fender. It's the shadow that makes it look like it still has a gap

Here's a straight down shot so you can see how far the wheel was bent out.

Here's the wheel. You can see the inside of tire in there where the pieces of rim broke away.

Everyone who's seen my car or pics of my car is confident it will be considered a total loss by the inurance company. I decided to go car shopping today so I'll know what I want when the insurance company makes their decision. My initial plan was to just go to the Scion dealer and check out the new XB. Then I thought I might as well look around some to make sure I get the best value and options for my needs. I made a list of cars to look at while my wife and I were out.

We stopped at the Dodge dealer first because it was closest and looked at the Caliber. It was ok.

Next we hit the Chevrolet dealer because they were next closest. I looked at the HHR first. As soon as I sat in the car I was pressed up against the b-pillar. I don't know who they made that car for but it wasn't adult males with any kind of width.

Our next stop was the Scion dealer. I've been looking at pics of the new XB for a while now and I like it except for the front end. Once I got in the car for the test drive my whole outlook changed. I was expecting basically the same car I have with a different look inside and out, a bigger engine, and a few new options. I was WRONG! That's a whole new car. I really don't think they should have given it the XB name. I drove an automatic and the power difference was incredible. The ride is smoother and much much quieter. The car really is much more refined. I also took a quick ride in a manual and it's much different also. I didn't like the clutch because it felt nothing like my XB but that's something an owner would have to adjust to. The shifter was awesome. It was short and shifted like butter. The guy who bought the manual while I was there left pretty quickly and spun the tires in second gear. Nothing major to brag about but that sort of illustrates the power difference.

My day of car shopping ended at the Scion dealer and my list of cars to review was immediately scrapped. If they total my car as expected, I will stay an XB owner.
