First Time Building A Box
Me and my dad have decided to build my a box for my subs today. I'll be running 2 eD 13kv.3's on a NINe.1 amp. I know we're going to go with a sealed box and that I should use 3/4 mdf but that's about the extent of my box building knowledge.
A few questions:
How should I properly seal the box? I know it needs to be ridiculously airtight.
For the wire's should I just drill a hole and then put silicon around the hole and wire or are those connector things found on pre-made boxes available for sell at any local stores?
One last question for now; is there anywhere you guys would suggest to go for cheap (not cheap looking) carpet for the box?
Thanks a lot guys

You can usually get away without using caulk at the joints by having perfectly straight cuts with the MDF. I realize this is somewhat difficult without the ideal tools - but I suggest running a bead of wood glue along all the joints. If you want, you can caulk the inner seams too.
I prefer to use something like these:

http://www.keystonbros.com/index2.html - is where I go for all my carpet and vinyl needs. I'm sure some local automotive upholstery shop, or car audio shop will sell some carpet to you too...

The connectors that you need to have to connect the amp to the sub you can buy cheap at any auto store i believe. As for advice i made my first box recently with my dad and i was pleased for the most part with the way it came out but i wish i planned it out a lot better. Make sure you think of everything you need to do before building it. One thing i heard that seems like it works is make the exact box out of cardboard to make sure it all fits and is easy to get in the car. Make sure you have good glue sealant cause regular wood glue wont work and nails and screws wont do anything for you either
I'm more confused than you are, but I've been building boxes since the late '80s, so that may have something to do with it.
Titebond II and 18ga brads FTW. The mechanical fastener is just there to hold the boards together until the chemical bond (the glue) dries. No screw or nail will ever make a bond as strong as a good glue joint.

So you know what a "band pass" (one note wonder) box is??? hahaha...trendy back in the day.
Matt's been addicted to CA glue for a while now...though he still uses TitebondII and a brad air-nailer for wood. I've seen the material fail before the glue will let go!

Hey Fisher - you should read this:

I suggest you start with a simple, sealed enclosure since this is your 1st time - but feel free to experiment with all different types. FWIW, I'm using a sealed enclosure too!
Cheers!

Thanks alot for all the replies. My dad ended up being lazy and not wanting to do it untill the weekend so I've got time to read up some more on this.
That page is going to help a lot.
Thanks
