A true ram-air filter, after a grill modification or two?

Sounds intriguing... and it reminds me of the Ram-Air systems that Pontiac so obnoxiously advertised. I'm fairly interested in it; has anyone else tried it?

Yea, you'd need to run an open grille in order to take advantage of any ram-air capabilities. But then, I wouldn't want to roll with a filter that was *that* exposed.

i agree, not a good ram-air idea.
it looks funny sitting on top of the engine anyway.
its better to use a SR and make a simple shield between the battery and grill.
bert power and plenty of cold air

I plan on doing some investigating with a cheap ebay SRI, one of these, the stock intake, and a ScanGauge II. Maybe even a "CAI" as well.

Wish me luck. My eyes are going to be on the MPG and intake air temperature.

There's a lot of speculation on SRI vs. CAI and some easy ECU readings should put rumors to rest and prove the value/worthlessness of all that extra piping.

Well, it certainly makes the car a lot LOUDER but it'll take a few weeks or so before I can bring any real data to the table.

Stay tuned.

Is it just me or does the xB in the install pictures have an extremely dirty engine bay?

They do, but the install was ridiculously easy anyway.

I still don't have the Scangage yet to show me whether this extra airflow is actually benefitting the engine yet, but, I'll admit this much;

-Mileage appears to have dropped slightly for some reason (from 33 avg to 31 avg ) , but on the flipside
-There's an area where I can safely "drag race" about 1/4 mile (though not measured) without cops/traffic... sorta. Anyway, that's not the point; the point is from a dead stop usually I'm doing 70 when I hit the mark, now I'm doing 74, almost 75 MPH. The car appears to have a little more grunt near 6K when I slide the selector from L to 2 and 6.2K when I go from 2 to 3. (I shift early in 1st to account for this transmission's... laziness)

...how much of a power difference is this? Any guesstimations? This was with my intake + Tsudo N1 axle-back, no silencer.

You'd have to have a car that's capable of going faster than 90 mph to take advantage of any ram-air capabilities.
