Default Engine concern...

OK, I'm about a month away from getting the xB...saw this and some postings from here regarding engine troubles...

http://newscionxb.com/2nd_gen_scion_...ms-t227.0.html

should this be a real concern? or is this type of thing par for the course with any vehicle model...a few bad apples in the bunch type of thing??

Thanks!

I am also in same position, and will be getting a XB2 between now and January.

I personally am not concerned over it. If there is a problem, Toyota has a good reputation for going all out to fix them. I will be of course monitoring the situation to see where it leads.

Worst case I'd imagine would be Scion offering a new engine. Hmmm, but can we trust the dealer to install one?

It's a proven engine, I think these are isolated incidents.

yeah, nobodies perfect, maybe with all the vehicles toyota makes that use the 2az-fe, camry, rav4, scion xb2 and tc, maybe a bad batch of them got sent to the xb2 assembly line and so we have a few xb's with engine problems.

if the problems are apparent, toyota can probably figure out which engines were faulty, and get recalls sent to the owners of suspect xb's.

Sorry to dig up the old thread, but have many others experienced problems relating to the balancer?

I am almost 100% that this is what our problem is. Our xB was one of the first (Bought on 5/5) and it now has over 10000 on the clock.

Whenever we are stopped, we can hear a rattling/clicking coming from the engine bay. There is no increase in vibration caused by this, only noise.

If you read that entire post you quoted, there is one engine problem. dlundgren has posted on about three different boards with his problem and it is mentioned in that post. That is the only engine problem I have seen.
The originator of the "engine problems" post you quoted states late in the post that he discovered the noise he was hearing was his Viper alarm system rattling.

Of course you can always get a professional welder to fix if you ever do have any engine problems.

These are all isolated issues. Toyota's engine failure rate is among the lowest in the industry.

i'm still hearing some kind of metal cliniging sound from the engine when i drive the car for a bit. I dunno if it's the same with other drivers.

It sounds like those metal clininging noise when u turn off the car after a long drive when the car is cooling down

I am taking it in tomorrow. It seems really intermittent.

It does not appear to be related to whether the engine is warm or cold. I hear it at both times. Although, it does seem to happen when it is cooler, but not cold out.
