View Full Version : throttle body spacers...goood or baaad? fujita_TC 10-05-2007, 04:25 AM heard that its good for other cars bad for ours??? can someone confirm this? captainlaziness 10-05-2007, 04:29 AM Last time this came up I think the general consensus was that they're a waste of money on the tC. IIRC, they'd be helpfull for plumbing in a nitrous set-up though. fujita_TC 10-05-2007, 04:32 AM yea just searched it, no wonder the first time i searched it nothin came up, coz i spelled it wrong..... the thread looks like a pulley thread, nobody has answers.... oh well,, thanks for the response cpt! captainlaziness 10-05-2007, 04:34 AM Yup. leekeestc 10-10-2007, 11:41 PM did you buy it yet i was thinkin about getting it saw it for 100 bucks malloynx 10-11-2007, 01:52 AM phenolic spacers are a good concept, just not for the TC. Sleek98 10-11-2007, 03:13 AM not good for us because our intake manifold already has a big enough plentum that there is no need for extra air. It might actually hinder you. draxcaliber 10-11-2007, 03:44 AM i remember a while, about year ago, somebody actually did a dyno with and without a throttle body spacer and made less power. then, even funnier, somebody logged on and said "man, this thottle body spacer really opened my tc's performance up!" and then we all laughed at him since we knew that his butt dyno was a poor measure of performance. captainlaziness 10-11-2007, 03:45 AM How does one calibtrate said butt dyno? draxcaliber 10-11-2007, 03:48 AM How does one calibtrate said butt dyno? driving my gf's stock automatic xa really seems to zero my butt dyno so that the tc suddenly feels like a corvette. Keeshwah 10-11-2007, 02:30 PM How does one calibtrate said butt dyno? push the car in neutral, then drive car. SeanstC 10-11-2007, 03:12 PM Fart to let out all negative chi.. and then eat some mexican food or whatever gives you gas.. if your car can make you fart then your gold.. Sleek98 10-11-2007, 04:12 PM Fart to let out all negative chi.. and then eat some mexican food or whatever gives you gas.. if your car can make you fart then your gold.. hahaha thats one way to do it. turbogsxr750 10-14-2007, 05:41 AM i actually made several TB spacers for several different applications. I test all of them on a flow bench with the manifold and TB attached. Then i tested all of the on a chassis dyno. The results on a flow bench were great. The results on a dyno not so much. The one that i thought would make the biggest difference on a chassis dyno was on a new C6 corvette. This car actually made the same horsepower but 10 foot pounds less on torque. But over all every car i tested one of these on (all fuel injected) made less horse power and torque. The only cars that i have seen these do well on are carb cars. All i consider this is a good $6000 wasted (what i spent) on a hopeful idea on fuel injected cars. turbogsxr750 10-14-2007, 05:43 AM but on a lighter note if you wish i can make these TB spacers for $75 and the will be the purtiest things you ever did see. lolol MrsTC07 10-14-2007, 06:32 AM heard that its good for other cars bad for ours??? can someone confirm this? Not worth the money, no increased horsepower. On carburated engines they do make some difference but not on fuel injected engines. Keeshwah 10-14-2007, 05:14 PM i believe any setup that has the injectors before the TB will gain hp because it allows the air and fuel to mix together longer. so any setup using multi-point fuel injection or direct inject wouldn't do a whole lot. soros151 10-16-2007, 12:10 AM i remember a while, about year ago, somebody actually did a dyno with and without a throttle body spacer and made less power. then, even funnier, somebody logged on and said "man, this thottle body spacer really opened my tc's performance up!" and then we all laughed at him since we knew that his butt dyno was a poor measure of performance. I don't think Its been a year since I did this dyno test on the spacers. LOL. But anyway, long story short, yhea, I did lost power. :P draxcaliber 10-16-2007, 12:45 AM i remember a while, about year ago, somebody actually did a dyno with and without a throttle body spacer and made less power. then, even funnier, somebody logged on and said "man, this thottle body spacer really opened my tc's performance up!" and then we all laughed at him since we knew that his butt dyno was a poor measure of performance. I'm the process of making ITBs for my Honda. Not the greatest of choices, but a great car non the less. What a coincidence, an N/A build. :P |
