Default Quick question about multi-amp systems

I have already installed an amp for my subwoofer however I want to now install another amp to power my speakers. Unlike my sub which I do not always want on, I want the speakers to always be powered by an amp. So instead of attaching the remote wire on the speaker amp to the head unit, can I just attach the remote wire to a +12V source (probably the AUX) to keep it on constantly? If not how can I have the speaker amp always on while the car is on? The reason I want to do this is because I like to have the sub on while listening to music, but if I’m listening to talk radio I don’t have my subs on but need my speakers on…any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Well you can use a switch down the line of the remote wire close to the sub amp. It should turn the sub amp off and leave the mids amp on

Is there any benefit to this as opposed to hooking up the mid amp remote wire to a voltage source?

Well you want the both the amps to be able to turn off when the car is off or you may kill the battery.

You can run an ignition wire to the amps also but be sure to include a switch for that also.

Either way just use a switch ,I ve done it before

You can tap into the cigarette lighter's positive wire and use that as the remote trigger for your new amp powering the main speakers. A single 16ga wire with a 1 amp inline fuse (always a good idea, just in case) is all that's needed. That way the amp will turn on when the key is on or in the acc position, and turn off when the key is off. This is how I currently trigger my amps, although I wired a toggle switch inline so I can easily eliminate the "auto-on" anytime.

just wire the subamp turn on wire through a fuse or if your head unit has sub controls you can likely turn them off from the head unit.
