Kumho Ecsta ASX Debriefing AKA Final Impressions
A while back I did a comparison review between my stock tires and my replacement set. From Bridgestone Potenza RE092 to Kumho Ecsta ASX after 44,000 miles. Well, after 41,000 miles, I now need a new set.
Back then, I wrote that the Kumho had softer sidewalls and lots of grip compared to the Potenzas. Now, at 2/32, the sidewalls are just as soft but the grip is still good. 41,000 miles on a 420 rated tire is less durable than my OEM Potenzas, but I drove it harder because there was more grip. I'm happy with the durability of the tires.
The good thing with the Kumhos was that it has grip in the dry and wet. More than the Potenzas is all I will say instead of "best tire evar!" because I don't change my tires often. It was $100 a tire back when I bought it.
The bad thing was the sidewall. It's softer than the Bridgestones and feels squishy. It gave a softer ride but lessened my confidence until I got used to them.
Overall, I would recommend this tire, barring defective ones. I'm sure there are better tires out there, but the Kumho Ecsta ASX served me pretty well.
Coming Soon: I will have a review/first impressions of my soon to be installed tires + new wheels (my stock wheels has been throught hell). It'll be a set of Falken Ziex 912s @$81 per tire on MSR 126 wheels

It's not flashy and does not have a lip. Just the way I like it.
*As a side story, I originally ordered a set of tires and wheels through Edge Racing, but they called me back saying they were out of stock with my wheel AND tire selections. I cancelled the order. Not saying they suck or anything because I have gotten sets from them before and they were prompt and professional all the time. I just have bad luck with ordering tires and wheels.

I have the Kumho ASTs and like them a lot! Great tire for the $crill!
A LOT more quiet than the Falkens I used to have.
I paid $75 a tire. (After $40 off a set of 4 and internet price.)

great write up, the Kuhmo Ecsta ASXs are also my choice of tires for my new wheels. awesome tread life which matters a ton for me and at about 100 bucks a pop you can't go wrong!

I remember using Kumho a while back and it was a cheap lousy set of tires, glad to hear that they are doing pretty good now.
I'm getting a set of wheels soon, and will consider wrapping them in kumho shoes
thanks guys for the review, and I wish u (TrafficinLA) best of luck with ur new setup ...
