Default Tranny Swap

alright you guys before you start saying "oh why don't you trade in your car and get a stick?" listen up.

i have a turbo tC that's automatic but looking to swap my tranny to a manual and my friend who happens to have a manual, agreed to swap trannys with me since he's gonna be selling his tC anyways and i have a friend that is willing to swap trannys from both cars for $150 each which i think is a steal and he has done tranny swaps on a lot of cars such as wrx, mustangs and stuff. so he's pretty trustworthy. i know i'm aware that i will need to get my car retune which i really dont need to worry about it since my sponsor will be tuning it for me no charge. but i wouldn't need to buy any additional parts for my car since my tranny is going to my friends car and his is going to mine. so i really don't need to go search around for parts. is there anything i should know before hand? i'm actually planning to do this before the end of march and i figure i should ask my fellow scionlife friends on what their opinions are.

I mean honestly do you guys think this would be a bad idea? but I mean for what I'm doing I'm not spending a ridiculous amount of money to do it and I don't even have to worry about searching or paying for parts since its coming directly from my friend's car to my car.

I would only be concerned about additional wires missing from the harness's, since yours is an auto and his is a manual. I thought there was a transmission computer that needed to be changed too. Dont forget your gauge pod too!

^^ swaping the turbo over seems easier than swapping transmissions. But if his car has damages to it then i dunno. I guess it's your call but I would just keep your car the way it is because it'll be more reliable down the line.

hes right. the few interior pieces are easy to switch over and the trannys are somewhat easy to pull much easier with a lift i prefer. but harness is different and ecu, and mounts may be (those you can swap) i just think you may create a headache. unless ur ready to swap harnesses too and go with a pretty big plug and roadtest game

Wow man lemme just say that project will be a real b!+<#. I looked into the possibilities of doing one on my xB because I wanted to drive stick and it was auto. There's so many places where something could go wrong and its gonna take forever. However you have a sick deal having all the parts right there to swap out so you might be able to pull it off. I would've killed for an opportunity like that back in the day cuz I likedmy xB so much. Guess it worked out okay though because I love my tC now :-). Anyway, despite the difficulty of it, the swap can be done. One guy here on SL has actually done it, can't remember who though... I was talking to him a while back about my xB.

Why not just swap cars and swap the turbo onto the manual...It'll be A LOT easier. Plus having a non-matching VIN will make the value of the car go right down the ____ter.

All you'd have to do is sell the cars to each other for 1$ and transfer the titles...
