Scions have a fixed, no-haggle price, so it all boils down to your trade-in value. This post highlights my experience at three dealerships in and around Chester County, Pennsylvania.
I had a 2000 VW Jetta GLS VR6 to trade-in. Based on my research at edmunds.com my car is worth about $8800. My first stop was Del Scion at Thorndale, PA. I was harrassed by a salesman as soon as I was exiting my car....first impression lost already, especially since I was busy getting my 18 month old daughter out of the car. They appraised my car and offered me $7700, which fall below the mark. When I left, they made no attempt to bargain with me. I guess my business wasn't worth their time.....their loss.
My second stop was Sloane Scion at Devon. Their sales staff were hovering by the front door like vultures....again, first impression lost. Here's the kicker....they appraised my Jetta and offered me $6500 !!!! They must expect their customers to be stupid or uninformed. With a polite but crisp "thanks, but no thanks" I proceeded to walk out. That was when he stopped me and offered me $8500 (the legitimate figure he had in his head). But my mood was spoiled, and I left.
My third and final stop was Tri-County Scion at Limerick, PA. The salesman who helped me was Guy Scholl. He did not exhibit any of the distasteful pressure tactics we've all come to expect from car salesmen. He was polite, and did not rush the sale. The initial figure he quote me was $8200....much closer to the figure based on my research. I got him to commit to $8600, which sealed the deal.
Avoid Del Scion and Sloane Scion like the plague! If you live in and around Chester County, PA I recommend you go to Tri-County Scion and ask for Guy Scholl.
