Default Philadelphia Metro Region Scion Buyers

Scions have a fixed, no-haggle price, so it all boils down to your trade-in value. This post highlights my experience at three dealerships in and around Chester County, Pennsylvania.

I had a 2000 VW Jetta GLS VR6 to trade-in. Based on my research at edmunds.com my car is worth about $8800. My first stop was Del Scion at Thorndale, PA. I was harrassed by a salesman as soon as I was exiting my car....first impression lost already, especially since I was busy getting my 18 month old daughter out of the car. They appraised my car and offered me $7700, which fall below the mark. When I left, they made no attempt to bargain with me. I guess my business wasn't worth their time.....their loss.

My second stop was Sloane Scion at Devon. Their sales staff were hovering by the front door like vultures....again, first impression lost. Here's the kicker....they appraised my Jetta and offered me $6500 !!!! They must expect their customers to be stupid or uninformed. With a polite but crisp "thanks, but no thanks" I proceeded to walk out. That was when he stopped me and offered me $8500 (the legitimate figure he had in his head). But my mood was spoiled, and I left.

My third and final stop was Tri-County Scion at Limerick, PA. The salesman who helped me was Guy Scholl. He did not exhibit any of the distasteful pressure tactics we've all come to expect from car salesmen. He was polite, and did not rush the sale. The initial figure he quote me was $8200....much closer to the figure based on my research. I got him to commit to $8600, which sealed the deal.

Avoid Del Scion and Sloane Scion like the plague! If you live in and around Chester County, PA I recommend you go to Tri-County Scion and ask for Guy Scholl.

Wow.

I was driving home from Six Flags one afternoon (we left early) with my son in the van when the van started acting up again. It was a 2002 Kia Sedona that literally every 2-3 weeks had something new break down. I couldn't stand it any longer and was livid.

I turned on the radio to hear a commercial that said "Are you Frustrated with your car??!"
I yelled YES!!! "Do you HATE your car??!" .......YES!!!.... "Then you should stop by our dealership and we'll get you out of anything and into the car of your dreams" I looked at my son and said "we're going"

We found the dealership. It was one of those big meat markets where you get swarmed by salesmen. Not in the nicesest state of being, actually in a ____y mood, I made eye contact with the first salesman pointed my finger in his face and said quote: "I'm frustrated with my car I HATE my car and YOU (look on his face) are getting me out of it. Here's the deal, I'm not putting any money down... I want full trade in value for the van... I owe a little more on the van than what it is worth, now do it. Get me out of this thing like your commercial said."

I drove away with a box. Happiest day in my life to get rid of that Kia junk. :D The dealership did what they said, I was a satisfied customer.

Thanks! Yeah I was pretty much telling what was going to happen, lol. Good thing I was in a ____y mood. The nicer side of me would've had a harder time of it
