Default Weird Window Problem...

Okay, ever since I got my windows tinted, they now screech really loud when I roll them up and there are lines left from the rollers on the windows. Any time you roll the windows up (unless it has been raining and they are wet) you hear this awful SKREEEEEEEEEECH sound.

The window tint guy came back to look at them and he doesn't think it is from the tint. He thinks I should call Toyota. He also said he would check with Solar Guard because he hasn't heard of any other problems with the tC. He has offered to redo the tint, but I don't know what to do at this point.

This same guy did my bf's Mini Cooper S and a bazillion other Mini Coopers, so it's not like he's an amateur at tinting windows.

I already did a search but I couldn't find anything since you people are so uptight about duplicate threads around here. Maybe I'm a horrible searcher, maybe not. If this is a duplicate, go ahead and lock it.

That's nice of him to offer to redo the tint. Possibly the tint is a cheaper, thicker tint. I have llumar on mine and have no problems. Unfortunately, you can bet your dealership will claim it's the tint. If they do (and you're drastic, but the guy did offer to redo it allready), go out and rip off the tint on one window, and see if it still makes the noise. If it does, there's your answer. It's also possible when the tinter used a card to push down the seals on the bottom half, he didn't wedge them back up?

The seals are up. That was the first thing he told me to check before he even came back over

The tint is Solar Guard. I don't really know anything about that in terms of cheapness or thickness.

He told me to wait 48 hours. I definitely waited the time he told me. I was supposed to wait 48 hours to roll them down and park in direct sunlight (which was no problem here in Arizona) for 7 days.

i've always been told to keep the windows up for some 30 days. maybe because of the humidity over here.

We definitely don't have a humidity problem here.

My bf was told the same thing and his windows are fine. Also when I had a Nissan and the tint was done by the dealership a few years ago they told me the same thing. 48 hours.

I just hate the damn SKREAAAAAACH and I'm sure Toyota will tell me tough ____.

And, I also worry now that if I just get them re-tinted that the same thing is going to happen.

I have(had) the exact same problem. I got my tint at the dealer so I went back to them to fix it. They claim it was because soap got into the power windows parts and they need to lubricate it. Whatever they did, it worked. My windows are fine now.

That sounds like the most logical cause. Try taking off the door panel and spraying some WD-40 or apply high temperature grease on the window mechanisms.

I'd say to take the free offer of a retint.

get it retinted, you only have to wait 48 hours for it to bond to the winder... 30 days that must be some slow drying tint

Both doors on my tC did the same thing. My tint installer pushed the seals down, and when I rolled the windows down/up (after 72 hours), the seals didn't pop up as they're supposed to, and both door seals kinked towards the rear portion of the door. Because of this, I am having both window seals replaced.

Default tint windows

I would have the guy take off the tint and see if the noise still there. It it is, bring the car back to Scion for them to fix the noise.

I bet the dealer will blame the tint and don't even bother to look at the problem if they see the tint.

Put the tint back on after dealer fix the windows.
