Default Well, today was certainly fun.

I was driving and decided to boost and pulled pretty hard. I realized that it was harder than usual, so I did it again and looked at the gauge, the boost went up to 14 lbs, I was like holy ____ and let off and I boost at 9 lbs, so 5 lbs more boost confused me, so I took a look under the hood and found this. The hose was touching the manifold and got burnt so bad, it severed it, thus giving no pressure to the wastegate spring.

So, I drove in no boost until I went to a friends and he hooked me up with some of his hose and we had to prevent it from happening again, so we settled for kitchen aluminum foil, haha.

Yea, I ghetto'd the heat wrap, but at least it's very effective I hope.

Any thoughts?

Also, 14 lbs feels gooooood!

that home heat wrap will melt as the melting point on the aluminum isnt as high as the heat shields that a made for that.. it may work for a while..

and even though 14 felt good... i hope no interbal damage was done.. seeing as your AFR's werent tuned for 14 pounds.

i would do the following,

drive to the nearest autozone (not even getting close to boost) and buying some more vac line.. then proceed to leave the store and change the lines right there in the parking lot while re routing them as well as you do not, DO NOT want that to happen again!

GL!

internals should be fine, the motor can handle that boost in short runs, just dont do it often.. but looks like you are trying to make excuses haha

Yea, I drove it in boost some, but didn't gun it, just went as high as 10 lbs since that is safe. I won't do it often, not yet.

Oh, yea dude, I don't have the time nor the cash to start the build. I gotta get the motor inspected first. But, yea, today really sucked. At least it was driveable. I am gonna get a steel braided line soon.

This new hose is just fine really, came from a guy who is doing a build on his Prelude, not my other friend with the 700WHP Prelude. Yea right, LOL. But, yea, the hose looked perfect for the job. Thick too. Same size too!

steel braided vac line? that looks nice but i would just stay with the less expensive regular hose, like for some reason it pops at least the pressure is released through the unexpensive hose than to expensive internals or critcal parts like the intake manifold..

I spiked to 22.5 pounds of boost on the dyno after I got a DOA boost controller and only bent my connecting rods. no other damage whatsoever.

mmmm 22 pounds sounds fun!

As far as your problem Neil, I would run it around the back side of the engine, then zip tie the new vacuum line appropriately and that way you will avoid any part of the manifold.
