interested in buyin an Xd, some questions to all.....
I like the car a lot. I test drove it and it was pretty awesome but now it comes down to price. So my question to all is what type of lease prices are you getting? I got quoted for $243/month with 3k down(taxes included in that 3k) for 36 months. That had 16 inch alloys and vehicle stability control in a 5sp MT. That seems high to me. the dealer explained to me that they keep their residual values low so they cant really compete on price with the Honda Fit. I received 2 dealer quotes all around the same. Another question.....this "pure pricing" is that a gimmick or do they move on price? Oh they based the lease on the MSRP of the vehicle straight from the scion website. That number includes 650 of "handling" fees which is total BS. Every car I have bought they waive that but not at scion? FYI I am in New York.
don't lease a scion. leasing is really really stupid, you buy the car to personlize it and spend money on lots of accessories and so on. if you lease it, you lose everything you've put into the car and even if you took out everything you installed, would they even work in the next car your going to drive?
pure pricing is not a gimmick, they can discount the price somewhat, but more importantly, they can't jack up the msrp due to supply and demand. they can also add stuff like toss in some free accessories, like floor and cargo mats or something. but i don't know how that applies to the leasing part of having a scion.
but more or less, leasing a scion is stupid, unless you don't plan to modify it and just keep it bone stock.

i wont do anything to it. that is why i would lease it. also since they dont have a "balloon" payment the payments over 36 months would be ridiculously high. Even over 60 months the price per month would be higher. The APR is also higher on the buy then the lease. 4.99% with current interest rates is terrible.
Your price is mainly going to be determined by your credit, if you want the best deal, go to scion.com and search for a dealer near you that offers the best rates (I'm in westchester ny but the best rate I found was in Danbury CT, but you can possibly be setting yourself up with a unfriendly dealer.). Thats really the only thing affecting your price besides the tax rate for where you live (which you really cant alter unless you can get a mailing address with one of your relatives/friends). Pure pricing wont be nudged unless your an employee I believe, which I feel more comfortable with since Honda/Nissan dealers where I live are a bunch of a$% faces.
edt:
you also might want to check annualcreditreport.com to check your credit report and history (its free) to make sure everything is good and clean to ensure u get the best rate possible for ur credit score.

Hey there. I'm in the same boat, just about to buy an xD. But everyone is right. Don't lease. I'm buying with $3000 down (TexasAirCheck voucher) and financing the rest through USAA. Payments are going to be just about what you were quoted for the lease (about $250/month, right?). Scions are priced like the Saturns are - no haggling. The destination fee is non-negotiable. It's the 'dealer prep' fee that's the scam. You'll come out ahead by buying, all around.

Pure Pricing is pretty much set in stone. Yes, the dealer COULD possibly work with the price, however they risk losing their entire Scion franchise if they discount the car or Scion accessories. Some will throw in "all-weather floor mats" (read: cheap ugly rubber mats) but that's about it.
Honestly with 3000 down you should be able to buy the xD and get similar payments... You would finance approx 14000 including the VSC and alloys (don't buy 16 alloys... spend the money at an actual wheel store on better wheels). If you finance 14k @4.99% you should be able to get payments in the 250-300 range per month depending on the length of the loan easily.

Hello, I am new to the site and wanted to ask a question along the lines of what is being spoken about. I am looking to purchase a Xd and have looked at a few used ones with <5000 mi on them and some are priced higher than new. In speaking with the dealership they told me they could not move on the price of new due to the "pure price" issue, but could have room to move on a used one due to them not having to follow the pricing guidelines on the new ones. So since I can not get a NADA/KBB/Edmunds price quote on a used Xd I have to figure out what one is worth or should be worth on my own. So my questios are what would you buy a used Scion Xd with 5000 miles on it vs. a new one? How much should it be off sticker? It is in my second pick of color and has just standard equip. Dealership is dumb in setting the price at $16,995 when anyone can get a new one for less, I just want to get a good deal and save a few bucks over new, but not knowing the resale value on these makes it difficult to determine what is a good deal. Any help or thoughts on what to do are welcome. Thanks

i guess ill take another look at both the honda fit and the Xd. it comes down to price for me. interesting to note that every insurance quote i receive has the fit being more money. stupid thieves stealing hondas really screw them!

^^ Don't hate, the post was along the same lines...
The Fit is going to have more cargo space, but less power. I would suggest test driving both extensively if you want to make a good decision. Personally, I feel the Fit is ugly as sin, and insurance rates are higher, which can defeat any savings you make on your monthly payment, but it's up to you in the end.

Sorry, did not mean to impose on your thread, Was not my intention. Will take your advice and start my own. Thank you Zefoxe for your reply, do not be offended when I make a new thread asking the same question, your answer was excellent.
no no didnt mean to come off as a douche but if you start your own thread you will get many more responses. people dont typically go back to threads where a question has been answered sufficiently.
