I got my xA this past Tuesday and I noticed everytime I start my car when it's in idle, the light comes on for a while and doesn't go away til a couple minutes after the other notification lights go away. Is there something wrong with the car? :shock: :?:

Nope, it just means your coolant is cool. when it turns red worry about it.

Take it easy on the thing until the blue light goes out...

That just mean the car is cold, just like any other car you have driven previously, except with a needle pointing at or below the C part of the Temp gauge. Like mentioned previously, take it easy on the car until everything warms up, including the coolant, engine, tranny/motor oil, and the tranny. Have fun!

It doesn't mean anything bad, unless it comes on while you are driving. As a point of habit, I don't drive the car away until the blue light goes out. I've been taught to always warm up an engine before putting a load on it.

I drove my auto xA on a cold morning recently. My transmission did not shift to overdrive until approximately the point that the cold light went out. Went to road speed OK but at higher than usual RPM.

Regarding warming the engine. I have read of this and feel that the rule of allowing thirty seconds or so for the oil to circulate thoroughly is adequate warmup for driving. Small engines with little excess heat do not warm up rapidly at idle speed. I have experience with this from my '91 one litre Metro. That thing would cool down when driving through a village warm up on highway and cool down through the next village. But the xA does warm up faster than the Metro.

I believe on both the xA and xB there is something in the computer that regulates the shifting differently until the car warms up.

Luckily, I have 2-3 minutes of low speed city driving before I hit the highway. By this time, the blue light is out and it hello 75 mph until I get near work.

I have a new XA also and have noticed it will not shift into overdrive until the blue coolant temp indication goes out. Does anyone know if indeed the tranny is computer controlled? I have also noticed after the engine is warm and I am climbing a steep grade, the engine will down shift to 3rd and will stay in third even when I let off the acelerator and then will eventually go back to overdrive. I assume this problem is just part of the breakin (I hope).

How many times does this come up? Seriously: How hard is it to read your owners manual? Furthermore, - Did it ever come to you to ever read it?
